Jour 3 a débuté

Who Will Be Crowned as the GIANT Winner Today?

Alexander Lakhov
Alexander Lakhov

Welcome back to the final table of Event #6: $365 GIANT No-Limit Hold'em which starts at 2 p.m. local time here in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. The nine remaining players will be taking their seats in the Brasilia Room to fight it out for that first-place prize of $250,000 and the gold WSOP bracelet. The player leading the fray to follow in last year’s winner Dieter Dechant’s footsteps is Renato Kaneoya with 56,100,000 in chips.

Kaneoya is going for his biggest WSOP cash which is also his fifth this summer in what seems to be his first summer here in Las Vegas. Luis Vazquez is trailing in second place with 42,700,000 and will be looking to make his second WSOP cash a personal best.

Alexander Lahkov is sitting in third place with 38,300,000 and is the last player that is sporting an above-average chip stack. Lakhov is no stranger to the WSOP and definitely not to the poker circuit in general. This will be his second final table of the summer after finishing in eighth place in Event #39: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout and he will be looking to improve on that result.

This is what they are all playing for:

7$40,627
8$31,403

Bracelet winner Daniel Fuhs is still in the running too with 18 big blinds. The final table is set to be an interesting one as there are three players with above average stacks and the rest will all be looking to win some pots from the start to even out the field. Kevin Rines (21,500,000), Jeremy Perrin (19,000,000), Svetlozar Nestorov (13,100,000), Lawrence Chan (7,900,000), and Matthew Smith (7,100,000) will be bringing their best from the start so be ready to expect some fireworks.

Hand-for-hand coverage will be provided from the start today when the players return to finish Level 35 which features a small blind of 500,000, big blind of 1,000,000, and a running ante of 150,000. The PokerNews live reporting team will be there from the “Shuffle up and deal” to the final applause for the new champion so make sure to follow all the updates!

The tournament director has welcomed the nine remaining players back to the official final table and instructed the dealer to shuffle up and deal with 7 minutes remaining on the level the players stopped at yesterday.

Hands #1-3: Smith Doubles Through Kaneoya

Niveau 35 : 500,000/1,000,000, 100,000 ante

Hand #1: Alexander Lakhov limped from the small blind and Luis Vazquez raised to 3.5 million from the big blind, Lakhov folded.

Hand #2: Vazquez limped the small blind and Renato Kaneoya checked his option. Both checked the {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop and the {A-Diamonds} fell on the turn. Vazquez bet 1.5 million and Kaneoya called. On the {6-Clubs} river, Vazquez checked and called a bet of 4.8 million by Kaneoya, who showed {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and won the pot.

Hand #3: Daniel Fuhs raised to 2.1 million from late position and Kaneoya asked for his stack size, then glanced at Matthew Smith's stack in the big blind. Kaneoya moved all in and Smith called for 6.8 million, Fuhs folded.

Matthew Smith: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Renato Kaneoya: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Both hit their set on the {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop and the {3-Spades} turn and {4-Diamonds} river ensured Smith's double.

Luis Vazquez: {K-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs} to give Vazquez a pair of queens. The turn brought them the {k-Clubs} to give Vazquez two pair and Fuhs one pair. Hands #8-11: A Split and a Penalty for Vazquez

Niveau 36 : 600,000/1,200,000, 200,000 ante

Hand #8: Luis Vazquez raised to 2.7 million and scooped the blinds and antes.

Hand #9: Kevin Rines raised to 3.6 million and Alexander Lakhov moved all in out of the big blind. Rines called and the cards were tabled.

Kevin Rines: {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Alexander Lakhov: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The board came {J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and they chopped it up with a full house.

Hand #10: Lakhov limped the small blind and Vazquez checked from the big blind. On the {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, Lakhov check-called a bet of 1.5 million and did so again for the same amount on the {2-Diamonds} turn. The {7-Clubs} river was checked and Vazquez showed {3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}.

"I have four pair," Vazquez claimed before correcting it to "three pair."

Hand #11: Svetlozar Nestorov moved all in for 13 million and Vazquez in the small blind asked for a count. He then folded and mucked the {A-Diamonds} face up. Since Renato Kaneoya was still to act from the big blind and subsequently folded, Vazquez received a three hand penalty for exposing his cards out of turn.

Hands #12-15: Double-Ups for Perrin and Chan

Niveau 36 : 600,000/1,200,000, 200,000 ante
Lawrence Chan

Hand #12: Jeremy Perrin moved all in for 14,200,000 from mid-position and action folded to Alexander Lakhov in the cutoff who also shoved with the bigger stack. The rest folded.

Jeremy Perrin: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Alexander Lakhov: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

"Jack of clubs on the flop!" Cory Waaland, on the rail, shouted out.

The flop came {j-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} indeed to give Perrin a set of jacks but it also provided Lakhov with a straight draw. The turn brought them the {3-Spades} which didn't change the situation and the river completed the board with the {4-Clubs} to double Perrin up.

Hand #13: Lawrence Chan shoved for 3,800,000 in total from mid-position and Lakhov called in the hijack. The rest folded again to let them fight it out.

Lawrence Chan: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Alexander Lakhov: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to give Chan a full house on the flop and no aces came on the turn. Chan doubled up.

Hand #14: Renato Kaneoya raised to 2,400,000 from the cutoff and got no action.

Hand #15: Kaneoya raised again to 2,400,000 from the hijack and got no action again.
