Poker Vlogger Ryan “joeyisamush” Depaulo Wins 2020 Online WSOP Big 500 ($159,563)

Niveau 47 : 400,000/800,000, 100,000 ante
Ryan Depaulo

On Sunday night, the 2020 World Series of Poker Online Event #12: $500 The BIG 500 No-Limit Hold'em attracted 1,624 players who rebought 803 times. The 2,427-entry field resulted in a $1,092,150 prize pool and after 12.5 hours of play, it was Ryan “joeyisamush” Depaulo walking away with a $159,563 top prize and his first gold bracelet.

Depaulo, who was literally playing from inside his car in a New Jersey Whole Foods parking lot, is a popular online poker personality, a self-described “degenerate gambler” who makes “+EV Vlogs about my -EV poker play.” It was a bit of redemption for him as last summer he finished third in the 2019 WSOP Event #61: $400 Colossus for $208,643, which comprises the vast majority of his $225,644 in live tournament earnings.

Depaulo won in impressive fashion entering the final table with the chip lead and eliminating all but two competitors. It wasn’t easy though as Depaulo had to overcome Jack “EarlGrey” Salter in heads-up play. The Brit, who has $8 million in lifetime earnings, was seeking his first bracelet as well, but despite claiming the chip lead at one point, Depaulo ultimately regained it and closed it out.

After “pill_ivey” bubbled in 372nd place, the in-the-money eliminations mounted. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were James “meatsweats” Carroll (221st - $982.93), Daniel “DNegs” Negreanu (205th - $1,092.15), Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee (144th - $1,310.58), Max “MaxSparrow” Pescatori (108th - $1,419.79), Katie “kateline” Lindsay (57th - $2,402.73), Nick “duckflush” Pupillo (19th - $5,242.32), James “mig.com” Mackey (15th - $8,300.34), and final table bubble boy Spencer “PrideEgoBalz” Christenson (10th - $10,593.85).

Depaulo began the final table as chip leader while Erick “Givmeaction” But was the short stack. Not surprisingly, But was the first to go after his ace-queen suited failed to win a race against the pocket sixes of Sean “FilthyDiaper” Ruane.

Not long after, Dominic “rgdoc” Ricciardi ran ace-seven into Depaulo’s ace-queen to fall in eighth place, and then Shannon “Aulophobia” Shorr bowed out in seventh when his ace-nine failed to overcome Depaulo’s pocket kings. Shorr, on many people's shortlist as one of the best players without a bracelet, scored his 96th career WSOP cash and is closing in on 2.5M in lifetime WSOP winnings.

Depaulo then scored two quick eliminations – Terry “mrterry007” Fleischer and Jessica “Jessyboo” Lanto – to take a commanding chip lead into four-handed play; in fact, he had nearly 5:1 over his next closest competitor and approximately two-thirds of the chips in play.

Depaulo soon got lucky with ace-eight to dispatch Hayden “Luckbox89” Fortini, who saw his ace-king go down in flames when an eight hit the flop. At that point, Salter won a flip with pocket fours against the ace-queen of Ruane, who exited in third place. That gave Salter ammunition, roughly 21 million in chips, to go into heads-up play against Depaulo, who had 28 million.

The two battled hard, but before too long Salter claimed the lead and began to apply pressure. It looked as if the Brit was going to win the title, but then Depaulo got lucky to double back into the lead. Soon after, Salter got it in with ace-jack and failed to get there against Depaulo’s pocket queens.

The next tournament on the schedule – Event #13: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Freezeout – will take place at 3 p.m. PDT on Monday. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will once again be reporting all the action, so be sure to tune in then to see who captures the next 2020 WSOP bracelet!

Jack Salter
Jack Salter

A few hands after doubling up with {a-Spades}{8-Hearts} against Depaulo's {k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, Jack "EarlGrey" Salter raised to 1,600,000 from the button, and Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depaulo three-bet jammed in the big blind. Salter called off his last 17,000,000 and the cards were tabled.

Jack "EarlGrey" Salter: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depaulo: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Depaulo looked primed to avenge his third-place performance at 2019's WSOP Event #61:$400 Colossus No-Limit Hold'em, and the {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop and {3-Diamonds} turn meant Salter had to hit an ace to continue their heads-up match.

The {3-Spades} hit the river instead, and Salter settled for second-place after a deep run, while Ryan Depaulo earned his first WSOP gold bracelet.

Sean "FilthyDiaper" Ruane Eliminated in 3rd Place ($72,409.54)

Niveau 46 : 300,000/600,000, 75,000 ante

Jack "EarlGrey" Salter jammed for 10,650,683 in the small blind, and Sean "FilthyDiaper" Ruane called off his last 9,889,406 in the big blind.

Sean "FilthyDiaper" Ruane: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Jack "EarlGrey" Salter: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Salter's pair of fours held on the {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop and the {6-Clubs} turn, leaving Ruane looking for an ace or queen to survive. The {6-Diamonds} fell on the river, leaving Ruane out in third.

Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depaulo begins heads-up play with a slight edge in chips over Salter.

Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depaulo open-shoved to put his opponents all in from under the gun, and Hayden "Luckbox89" Fortini called off his last 5,810,456 from the small blind.

Hayden "Luckbox89" Fortini: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depualo: {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Depaulo wouldn't be denied on a {2-Hearts}{q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop, giving him a pair of eights and the lead. The {j-Hearts} fell on the turn, opening up four more outs for Fortini, but Depaulo wouldn't be "mushed" on the {3-Clubs} river, and Depaulo earned his fifth knockout of the final table.

Niveau 44 : 200,000/400,000, 50,000 ante

Jessica “Jessyboo” Lanto moved all in for 2,651,775 from the cutoff and Ryan "joeyisamush" Depaulo called from the big blind.

Ryan "joeyisamush" Depaulo: {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Jessica “Jessyboo” Lanto": {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Lanto was ahead but Depaulo was running hot as evidenced by the {8-Spades}{k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop, which gave him top two pair. The {j-Spades} turn kept Lanto drawing live, but they missed when the {3-Clubs} bricked the river.

Ryan "joeyisamush" Depaulo raised to 800,000 from under the gun and Terry "mrterry007" Fleischer defended the big blind to see a {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop. Fleischer checked and then called off for 3,485,993 after Depaulo jammed.

Ryan "joeyisamush" Depaulo:{10-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Terry "mrterry007" Fleischer: {5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

Depaulo had just jack-ten high but it was ahead as Fleischer went with his open-ended straight draw. Unfortunately for Fleischer, neither the {k-Spades} turn nor {7-Diamonds} river helped him and he was out in sixth place.

Shannon "Aulophobia" Shorr raised to 3,000,000 from the button, and Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depaulo three-bet shoved in the small blind. Jack "EarlGrey" Salter folded in the big blind, and Shorr called off his last 1,152,010.

Shannon "Aulophobia" Shorr: {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Ryan "Joeyisamush" Depaulo: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Depaulo wouldn't be denied, as the {10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} flop gave him top set and a commanding lead. The {7-Diamonds} turn and {3-Clubs} river brought no miracles for Shorr, and Depaulo knocked out the dangerous Shorr in seventh.

Spencer "PrideEgoBalz" Christenson: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
