Thiago "IneedWasabi" Macedo Wins Event #4 for $161,637

Niveau 45 : 400,000/800,000, 100,000 ante
Thiago Macedo
Thiago Macedo

It took about four and half hours on Day 2 to decide a winner in the fourth event of 2021 GGPoker WSOP Online Bracelet Events, and Brazil's Thiago "IneedWasabi" Macedo has won the top prize of $161,637 and his first Gold Bracelet. Macedo made his way through a Day 1 field of 1,643 in Event #4: $800 Double Chance NLH to win the biggest portion of the $1,248,680 prize pool.

Macedo was in disguise until the final table real-name policy exposed him as "IneedWasabi". He'd bagged the third biggest stack at the end of Day 1, and was among the leaders most of the day. He had to battle back at a bit at the final table, though, starting the final nine with a smaller stack.

When they got heads up, Macedo was well behind Andreas "Duckzzz" Nasman who had nearly a 2:1 lead to start the two-handed play. Macedo doubled up quickly however, turning the tide and taking the lead. It took another full level to finish it out, but Nasman never managed to get back to even. It all ended on a hand where Macedo flopped two pair against flush and straight draws, and held for the lot when Nasman hit his king on the river and shoved his remaining chips.

Day 2 Action

There were a total of 1,643 entries in Day 1 of Event #4: $800 Double Chance NLH, putting $1,248,680 in the kitty to play for. Some of that was handed out in the latter stages of Day 1, but after a full 32 levels were complete, there were still 24 active stacks to come back for Day 2.

Day 2 played fairly quickly, as they got to the final table in less than two hours. Along the way, it looked like Bartlomiej "chester20o" Swieboda might bag his second bracelet of the series after winning Event #1, but ultimately, he had to settle for 17th place and a score of $7,038.

Start-of-day chip leader Stoyan "UncleToni" Obreshkov looked to be in good shape at the final table, bringing the third place stack to the table. He was within striking distance of the top stacks, and even held the lead for a while, but was crushed in a hand where he went hard with deuces, but lost to the runner-up finisher Nasman.

That brings Event #4 to a close. Coming up next will be Day 1 of Event #5 on Saturday August 7, and PokerNews will be on the virtual floor to bring all the action.

Thiago "IneedWasabi" Macedo limped, then called when Andreas "Duckzzz" Nasman raised to 2.4 million. Nasman bet 1.65 million on the {9-Spades}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop, and they both checked the {8-Hearts} turn. Nasman shoved the {k-Clubs} river for almost 7.5 million, and Macedo called from the big stack to put the bracelet on the line.

Most of the damage was done earlier in the hand with deuces, but Stoyan "UncleToni" Obreshkov three-bet shoved over a raise to 700,000 by Andreas "Duckzzz" Nasman for the rest of his stack a few hands later. It was a race spot with the ace-queen for Obreshkov playing the over-cards to the pocket tens of Nasman. The tens hit a set on the turn to seal the deal, and the start of day leader had to settle for 6th place.
