Walker Goes Down in Cruel Fashion

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Walker
Jason Walker

Jason Walker has been riding a big stack all day, but his tournament just came to a sudden end on the river.

On a {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} {q-Diamonds} board, Walker bet 5,000 from the small blind and was called by the under-the-gun player. Sheldon Akiyama in middle position raised to 25,000, and Walker moved all-in for 36,000 total.

After the original caller quickly folded, Akiyama went into the tank for several minutes before putting in the chips to call. Walker turned over {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for two pair while Akiyama had {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} for a pair of queens.

Akiyama needed help and got it when the {a-Diamonds} fell on the river to give him a bigger two pair. The stacks were counted down, and when Akiyama was found to have Walker covered the one-time big stack made a quick walk to the exit.

Lindahl's Rockets Oust Big Slick

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A player in early position raised to 2,100 and Patrick Chung called on the button. David Lindahl was in the small blind and decided to make it 7,000. The original raiser jammed for 20,000 and Chung "tanked for at least an appropriate amount of time" before making what he described as "an agonizing fold". Lindahl called and hands were revealed.

Early Position Player: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
David Lindahl: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

The flop was {8-}{9-}{q-}, and with the big slick needing big help in the form of running cards, the {8-} turn left him drawing dead before the {8-} completed the board.

After the hand, Chung revealed he would have had the best hand had he called, but instead the pot got sent to Lindahl who chipped up.

Ruiz Sends One Packing

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Jorge Ruiz called his short-stacked opponent's shove for her final 8,700 with {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and was up against {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

The {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop came him an open-ended straight draw, but he didn't need it after hitting a pair on the {8-Diamonds} turn. The river came a blank {7-Diamonds}, and the 2019 third-place finisher scored a knockout.

White Calls His Card

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Eric White, a dealer here at the Rio, was involved in a multi-way pot that was checked around on the turn with the board showing {q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} {a-Spades}.

"How about a seven," he asked the dealer.

"What suit?" the dealer responded.

"I don't care," White said.

Sure enough, the {7-Clubs} came on the river and, after it was checked around to him, White bet 1,400. Everyone folded and White turned up {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for the rivered set.

Savenick Picks Up Chips with Set of Jacks

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

With 12,000 in the pot, and the flop reading {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, the small blind checked, and so did Bally's table games dealer James Savenick in early position. The button player put out a bet of 4,000, which led the small blind to fold before Savernick raised to 8,000, which got a call from the button.

The {k-Spades} came on the turn, and after Savenick led for 8,000 chips, the button player thought about it before open mucking {q-}{q-}. It proved to be a good fold, as Savenick flipped over {j-}{j-} for a flopped set.

Ruffing Takes Multi-Way Pot, Moves Over 100K

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Greg Ruffing opened to 3,000 pre-flop from early position and was called by three players, including Joe Garrett in the big blind.

Everyone checked the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop. The small blind and Garrett checked again on the {9-Hearts} turn before Ruffing bet 8,000. That forced folds from all three opponents as Ruffing picked up the pot.
