Day 1b has come to an end in Event #15: €550 Colossus No-Limit Hold'em with 16 players advancing to Day 2. Colin Grunow leads them all with 431,000 chips.

Grunow, with only $2,974 in total live earnings so far, all obtained here at the King's Resort in Rozvadov, is looking for a deep run in this event to reach the first big score of his career.

The German player was in very good shape all day and started to build his stack early. He even busted Shaun Deeb and Anson Tsang in the same hand before the end of late registration, holding queens versus pocket trees for Deeb and king-jack offsuit for Tsang. All the chips went in the middle preflop and Tsang managed to find a king on the flop, however, Grunow found a runner-runner flush to continue his run.

The day started with around 30 entries but escalated to over 100 after the first break. By the end of late registration, there were a total of 196 entries to enter the field. After 18 levels, the day came to an end and saw Catalin Diac being eliminated on the very last end.

Bracelet winners Chris Ferguson (137,000) and Erik Cajelais (115,000) have also gained their ticket for day 2, which will be Saturday, November 3rd, at 3 p.m.

With 20 players being in the money, the field reduced itself quite fast and Robert Campbell, currently second in the WSOP Player of the Year race, busted close to the bubble when his pocket sixes felted against Giorgiy Skhulukhiia’s pocket sevens. Skhulukhiia, representing Russia, ended the day as the second stack with 317,000. He is closely followed in the counts by Spanish player Roberto Carrillo, with exactly 300,000 chips.

On the very first hand of hand-for-hand play, both Martin Kabrhel and Vladimir Peck found themselves all in and at risk and ended up busting to share the min-cash for €809.

Many familiar faces came and went on Day 1b, unable to get anything going their way. Daniel Negreanu was looking to add more points in the Player of the Year race but busted his two bullets. Georgios Vrakas, Viktor Blom and William Kassouf also made an appearance but didn’t find a bag tonight.

Kabrhel and Peck Share the Bubble

Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

On the very first hand of hand-for-hand play, both Martin Kabrhel and Vladimir Peck found themselves all in and at risk. Kabrhel three-bet from the small blind to 80,000 a raise worth 13,000 from Eran Cohen situated in the cutoff. The latter moved all-in and Kabhrel called.

Kabrhel held {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for the best hand and was facing {j-Spades}{8-Spades} for Cohen, who managed to find a board {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{k-Spades}, giving him two pair on the flop.

On the other table, Peck was all-in for his last 21,000 with {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and has been called by Colin Grunow who held {9-Spades}{5-Hearts}. The dealer fanned a board {8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs} and Grunow took down the pot with two pair.

Peck and Kabrhel went to the cashier to share the €809 min-cash.

In a raised pot with three players involved, the flop read {8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Giorgiy Skhulukhiia checked from the big blind as well as Yossi Eluz. Robert Campbell moved all-in for 54,000 from the cutoff and both Skhulukhiia and Eluz called.

The two remaining active players checked on the {2-Diamonds} turn and {a-Hearts} river and Campbell showed {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}. It wasn't good enough to win the pot, as Skhulukhiia turned over {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for the winning hand. Eluz sent {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} into the muck.

Kassouf was calling for the cards but didn't find any help on a board {2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{2-Spades}, giving the double up Neuville who raised his arms in the air saying "I doubled up on William Kassouf! Martin Kabrhel

Oleg Pavlyuchuk raised to 4,100, making Martin Kabrhel say from the big blind seat "Be careful my friend, you know who's on the big blind!". It folded to Kabrhel who called.

"Good luck, I think you'll need it," said Kabrhel right before the flop fell {8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and checked. Palvyuchuk bet 5,000 and Kabrhel quickly min-raised. Pavlyuchuk reraised, putting Kabrhel at risk for his remaining stack worth 44,000 and the latter snap-called.

Grunow Knocks Out Deeb and Tsang in Roller Coaster Hand

Niveau 12 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Anson Tsang

Shaun Deeb raised and Anson Tsang shoved next to him before Colin Grunow reshoved from the blinds, called all-in by Deeb.

Shaun Deeb: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Anson Tsang: {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Colin Grunow: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Grunow was in very good shape to bust Deeb and Tsang in the same hand and stood up from his chair to see the board.

The board brought at first {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, giving the pair of kings to Tsang. However, a {a-Spades} and a {8-Spades} appeared to give a runner-runner flush to Grunow who took down the big pot while Deed made his way to the cashier to re-enter.

Yake Wu raised to 2,500 and Yaron Ben Avi called in the cutoff, followed by Tung Ho Kim on the button and Lars Peczan in the blinds.

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and Wu continued for 5,500 after a check from Peczan. Only Ben Avi stayed interested and called.

A {7-Clubs} was dealt on the turn and Wu quickly check-called a bet from Ben Avi for 11,000.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Wu checked again. Ben Avi shoved for 35,900 and after some thinking, Wu called with {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for top pair. Ben Avi tabled {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for a flopped set and took down the pot.

Michael Hoermann limped and Wiliam Kassouf raised to 1,000 next to him. Colin Grunow called on the button, followed by Roberto Carrillo in the blinds and Hoermann to create a four-way pot.

The flop showed {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and it checked to Hoermann who bet 2,000. Only Kassouf called.

The turn landed the {7-Spades} and this time Hoermann check-called an all-in bet from Kassouf worth 8,000. Kassouf revealed {4-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for trips while Hoermann held {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for a pair of aces and took down the pot after the {10-Diamonds} fell on the river.

Roberto Carrillo raised in early position to 600 and Viktor Blom three-bet on the button to 2,400. Carrillo thought about his move for a minute and four-bet to 7,600. Blom quickly announced all-in for a stack around 25,000 and Carrillo snap-called.

Blom tabled {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and realized he was in a very bad shape for his tournament as Carrillo revealed {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

The board brought no miracle to Blom with {8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Blom, who busted for the second time today, made his way to the exit while Carrillo climbed to a stack worth 80,000.
