Loosening Up the Table

Niveau 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Poker is full of competition and players can get caught up in heated moments, such as when a player hits a miracle card on the river or a hand that was ahead suddenly loses.

In either situation, tensions can run high.

Mike Golack noticed the mood at Table 224 had changed to a somber atmosphere after a player watched an opponent come from behind to win. Golak decided to lighten the mood and took it upon himself to ask a server to bring shots of alcohol or alcohol beverages of choice to everyone at the table.

The results proved positive.

PokerNews walked up to the table just as the server arrived and handed out the drinks. All the players stood, asked the dealer to hold off a hand, and then they toasted each other as they smiled and laughed before action resumed.

“Poker is supposed to be fun,” Golak told PokerNews with a wide smile. “That’s why we got the shots.”

Anthony Serino, who was seated to Golak’s immediate left, agreed.

“That’s what is great about the Monster Stack,” Serino said. “It brings out the recs, the weekend warriors. It’s fun.”

Costantini Gets Near Double Up

Niveau 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Five players saw a flop of KQJ with 7,000 in the middle. The hijack bet 3,500 which was raised by Massimo Costantini in the button to 8,700. Only the hijack made the call and the other three players folded.

The 3 came on the turn and Costantini bet 15,600. The hijack check-jammed for 39,200 and was snap-called by Costantini.

Hijack: K10
Massimo Costantini: A10

Costantini flopped Broadway, but the hijack had a number of outs with the open-ended straight flush draw. The Q on the river was a brick to send the hijack to the exit and give Costantini a six-figure stack.

The hijack took a photo of the board much to the annoyance of one player at the table. "Don't let them take a stupid photo of a stupid hand, I am here to play poker!" Tweet your guesses to @PokerNews, no prizes for the correct answer.
