Extreme Tour a Massive Hit

It’s not all poker at the PokerStars Championship Sochi. On Monday, players who signed up for the Extreme Tour at the events desk were treated to a ride up one of the many mountains surrounding the city.

Packed into nine jeeps, the crew began a trek up, taking in mountains, waterfalls, ancient dolmen tombs, ravines and mineral water sources.

The cold and rain would usually dampen spirits but the conditions made for tougher terrain which in turn allowed the adventurers to truly witness the skill of the drivers. Maneuvering the tight corners and narrow pathways would seem challenging as rainwater and bits of rock flowed down the mountain and across the paths, but, to the drivers, it gave them a chance to show off their skill.

One driver by the name of Konstantin has been a professional driver since 1996 and continues to stay behind the wheel as a hobby and a way to make a living. Neil Stoddart, who witnessed Konstantin’s skill first hand was very impressed with how the local driver handled the road.

The crew was rewarded with a refreshing taste of a natural spring, were able to cast a wish on a magical stone, and saw the beauty of several waterfalls. They also got to see tiny, ancient caves that have many stories or beliefs surrounding them. Some would say small people build and lived in them while giants resided elsewhere. Others believe that the holes were created to store food and supplies, keeping them out of harm’s way.

This was just the first activity PokerStars planned for the players in Sochi. Bungee jumping, karaoke, VR Challenge, a meet and greet, and the player’s party are still yet to come. Check out the Events Desk for full details.
