Chew Joins Engel's Table

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The table of Ari Engel has just become a little tougher after Stevan Chew sat down a few minutes ago. The other day, Chew overcame a 6-1 chip deficit in heads up to win the Aussie Millions championship ring in a Bounty event and will be full of confidence going forward.

Other notables that have been spotted throughout the entire poker room of the Crown Casino include Claas Segebrecht, 2014 WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson, Tsugunari Toma, Paul Hoefer und Felix Schulze. The latter finished third in that very Bounty Event.

Macdonnell Loses One, Wins One

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Four players saw an all-heart flop of {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and three checked to Marc Macdonnell on the button who bet 700. The big blind called and the others folded.

The turn was the {8-Clubs}. The big blind checked to Macdonnell who bet 1,800 and his opponent check-raised to 4,100. Macdonnell let it go.

Shortly after, Macdonnell raised to 300 from under the gun and both blinds called. On the {8-Hearts}{K-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, the big blind bet 625, Macdonnell raised to 2,100 and both blinds quickly folded.

Last year Shurane "Shane" Vijayaram went from entering a $130-rebuy tournament here at Crown Casino and winning a seat in the Main Event, to just one week later turning that $130 into a seven-figure score.

This year, he's back, and in action early on Day 1c of the Main Event.

In this hand he opened to 250 and the big blind called. The big blind check-called a bet on the {3-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop of 225 and the pair checked down both the {j-Spades} turn and the {k-Hearts} river.

Vijayaram showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} but his opponent had that beat with {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

"It's still early," said Vijayaram who sits on just under starting stack half way through Level 1.

Wilkerson Finds the Call Button

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Dylan Wilkerson was facing a bet of 5,000, more than the size of the 3,500 pot, when we got to his table. He was in the cutoff and {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} was on the board. The player on the button had put the wager in and Wilkerson flicked in a call.

The player on the button showed {8-}{8-} for two pair and a missed draw but it was no good against Wilkerson's {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}.

Greenwood Using the Big Guns Early

Sam Greenwood opened for 200 under the gun and called a three-bet to 700 from an opponent in middle position. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and both players checked. The turn brought a {7-Hearts} and Greenwood piled in 2,000, over the size of the pot. His opponent snap-called. The river brought the {10-Diamonds} and Greenwood fired big again with 4,000.

The call came slower this time but it did come after 15 seconds or so. Greenwood tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and dragged the pot.

Bringing Back the Heath

Ben Heath - Shurane Vijayaram Heads Up
Ben Heath - Shurane Vijayaram Heads Up

Last year, Ben Heath nearly went all the way in the Main Event. In the 169th hand at the final table, a big bluff from the British pro got picked off by Shane Vijayaram and ended Heath's attempt in second place. A$1 million richer, Heath is back this year to try and climb one spot higher.

In early position, Heath called a raise from an under the gun opener. On a {6-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop, Heath raised a 225 bet to 650 and received a call. Both players checked the {6-Hearts} on the turn. On the {K-Spades} river, Heath's opponent check-folded to a 1,800 bet.

Greenwood Down After Losing to Aces

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Chul-Hyon Park raised to 300 and the small blind called. Sam Greenwood three-bet to 1,500 from the big blind and Park four-bet to 4,000. The small blind folded and Greenwood made the call.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Greenwood check-called a bet of 5,500. The turn {3-Hearts} was checked by both players and the river was the {j-Hearts}. Greenwood thought before betting 3,000. Park called.

Greenwood showed {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a pair of tens, but Park held {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and took down the pot.

Early Bang by Wang

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

With some 11,000 in the pot already, more than 100 big blinds worth, and the flop showing {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, Xu Wang and his sole opponent Phani Raniveni both invested 7,050 each to see the {10-Clubs} on the turn. Raniveni checked and Wang quickly moved all in for 23,000 to force a reluctant fold from his opponent.

Kozlov Stays Sticky

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player raised to 300 on the button and got action from Martin Kozlov before the big blind made it 1,500 to go. Kozlov stuck around for a heads-up pot and he check-called 1,400 on the {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades} flop. Both checked the {k-Clubs} and the river came a {9-Spades}. Kozlov bet 4,000 and tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for trips when he got called.
