The end of level eight has been reached and the players have been sent into a 75-minute break. Since it's too late for lunch and too early for dinner, let's just call it a siesta break.

Byron Kaverman raised under the gun and the action folded to Gerard Pique on the button. Pique hadn't seen that Kaverman had opened, and tried to raise to 11,500 himself. It was ruled a call and both blinds folded.
The flop came and Kaverman bet out 12,000. Pique made the call and the hit the turn. Kaverman now checked, and called the 22,000 bet that followed from Pique.
The river came the , pairing the board. Kaverman checked, and called the shove that followed. Pique turned over for the second nuts, and Kaverman open mucked his with a big smile.
Kaverman, Pique and Kornuth laughed where Kaverman said something to the effect of "I thought you turned over king-queen for a second" and then made his exit. Pique now at a stack worth over 300,000.

Davidi Kitai open-shoved from under the gun for 78,500 and the action folded to Paul Newey in the small blind, who called all in for less. Kitai showed and Newey had .
The flop of was no threat for Newey, but the turn made things spicy. However, the river blanked and left Kitai with less than three big blinds. Those chips vanished one hand later to Anton Astapau and the Belgian left the tournament area just shy of the second break.

According to the Austrian, Speiser had shoved the button for 10 big blinds with and Aldemir shoved for slightly more with . Dario Sammartino had found in the big blind and an ace on the river locked it up for the Italian.

On a board of Liv Boeree bet 26,000 from the big blind. Charlie Carrel was her opponent and looked at Boeree while making his decision. Boeree jokingly covered her face to hide any tells, but it wasn't working as Carrell called and Boeree showed for two pair with a nine kicker. Carrel tabled and took down the small pot.

Just about every record here has been broken so far this EPT Barcelona poker festival, and the €25,500 Single-Day High Roller will be no exception.
Last year a total of 152 entries (118 players plus 34 reentries) were done into the event, the field now is already up to 158 (131 plus 27) and registration is open for about 90 minutes (one 30-minute level plus a 60-minute dinner break). Also, the PokerStars EPT app tells us there's 9 seats reserved already as well.
