Helppi Puts McDonald To The Test

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Juha Helppi opened to 14,000 from the hijack and got called by Ivan Luca from the cutoff. Mike McDonald three-bet from the button to 42,000, getting the blinds out of the way. Helppi then four-bet to 289,000, by putting all of his green 25,000-chips on top of his previous bet.

Luca quickly got out of the way, but McDonald appeared to have a legitimate decision. It would be for all of McDonald's remaining stack, and the Canadian eventually elected to fold.

Vogelsang Gets Aces and Doubles

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Christoph Vogelsang raised to 13,000 from the button and Philipp Gruissem defended his big blind in a battle of the German High Roller regulars. The flop came {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Gruissem checked, Vogelsang bet 16,000 and then quickly called all in after the shove of Gruissem.

Vogelsang: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Gruissem: {J-Clubs}{5-Spades}

The {3-Spades} turn took away a few outs from Gruissem, making the {J-Spades} river insignificant as Vogelsang still held the better two pair. He doubled up for 107,000, taking almost half of Gruissem's stack.

Ventura and Palumbo Face Shoves

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

On the heads-up flop of {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, Rocco Palumbo checked in the cutoff and Sergey Lebedev bet 40,000 from one seat over in the button. Palumbo called and the {3-Clubs} appeared on the turn. Again Palumbo checked, Lebedev then moved all in for around 200,000 and that forced a fold from Palumbo.

Diego Ventura faced a very similar scenario a few tables over. On the {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Spades} flop, he checked and Ali Reza Fatehi bet 40,000 in the cutoff. Ventura called and then check-folded the {2-Clubs} turn to the all in of his opponent.

Vogelsang Bleeds Early

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

On a flop of {3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds} both small blind Manuchehr Ahadpur Khangah and big blind Anton Astapau checked. Christoph Vogelsang, seated in early position and presumably the initial raiser in the hand, made a bet of 27,000. Just Khangah called, Astapau folded.

Khangah check-called another 37,000 on the {4-Spades} turn before the {2-Hearts} completed the board. Khangah checked and Vogelsang contemplated what to do for about a minute or so, before reluctantly checking behind,

Khangah showed {A-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Vogelsang threw his {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} into the muck.

Dominik Nitsche Doubles Through Chance Kornuth

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Dominik Nitsche raised to 13,000 and got two callers in Sam Greenwood in middle position, and Chance Kornuth in the big blind.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and all three players checked. On the turn which was the {10-Spades} Kornuth lead for 32,000 and Nitsche was the only caller as Greenwood elected to fold.

On the river, which was the {7-Spades} Kornuth thought before shoving a stack of 25,000 value chips forward, putting his German opponent all in.

"I'm not folding," said Nitsche stacking his remaining chips and pushing them forward.

"You win," said Kornuth, showing {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds} for ace high. Nitsche turned over {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and scooped the pot and the double up.

Thorel Builds Stack

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Jean-Noel Thorel has picked up quite a few chips early on to close the gap to overnight leader Julian Stuer.

First, Ye Zhang raised to 16,000 from the button and Thorel three-bet to 56,000, forcing a fold from Zhang.

Then, Thorel limped in from the small blind and Connor Drinan raised to 16,000, Thorel called. After the {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop, the action went check, check. On the {9-Clubs} turn, Thorel bet 10,000 and Drinan folded.

Piqué On A Different Pitch

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Gerard Piqué
Gerard Piqué

FC Barcelona star Gerard Piqué is one of the players who took a seat at the start of day 2. The Spanish soccer player is a known poker aficionado, having scored two EPT-cashes here in the past. Piqué's biggest score to date, besides winning the UEFA Champions League four times, is €40,950 in a €5,000 Six Max Turbo in EPT season 8.

Piqué won his first pot right away, as he opened under the gun to 14,000 and got a call from Chance Kornuth. At a {Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, Piqué continued with 18,000, and Kornuth let it go.

The Rich Get Richer

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Guanfei Zhu (small blind) and Julian Stuer (early position) got their chips into the middle before the flop. It was Zhu at risk with {A-Spades}{J-Spades}, up against the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} of Stuer. Zhu was all in for about 120,000, and failed to double up as the board ran out {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Stuer up to almost 1.5 million, Zhu one of the first players to go early on Day 2.
