Malec Waves Wizard Wand to Knockout Lefrancois

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Isaac Haxton was once quoted saying "[...] we look kinda similar. When I first started playing live cash games, the regs at Turning Stone called me Harry Potter" when asked who should play him in a movie.

Well, at his table sits EPT Barcelona champion Sebastian Malec and he's dressed as Harry Potter. He's not just wearing the iconic Harry Potter glasses, he's also sporting a Gryffindor sweater and has a wand which he's waving when all in. Just now, he needed to wave it really hard because he needed some help when he got his chips in the middle.

We caught the tail end of that hand, but Malec himself told us after the hand what had happened prior.

Rainer Kempe opened under the gun and Pascal Lefrancois called from the hijack. Sebastian Malec over called from the button and both blinds came along as well to make it five-handed.

The flop came {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and action checked to Lefrancois who bet 3,000. Malec called, both blinds folded and Kempe squeezed to 9,800. Now Lefrancois called and, wouldn't you know it, Malec pushed all in by placing a huge tower worth 100,000 forward. Kempe folded, Lefrancois went deep into the tank.

After some time, he called for 26,600 more and it was time for Malec to put his wizard wand to work.

Sebastian Malec: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Pascal Lefrancois: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The {6-Spades} on the turn wasn't doing it for Malec but the waving of the wand paid off as the {9-Diamonds} completed the board, gifting Malec the magic flush while Lefrancois exited.

Kempe Doubles Through Wheeler; Daher Also Left Short

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a flop of {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, Jason Wheeler bet 6,400 into 14,500 from the small blind and Rainer Kempe called on the button. The {K-Spades} fell on the turn and Wheeler moved all in, Kempe called for his last 17,400.

Rainer Kempe: {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Jason Wheeler: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The {6-Hearts} on the river completed a flush for Kempe and he doubled, leaving Wheeler short on his second bullet for the tournament.

Albert Daher is also back among the shorter stacks on a neighboring table. Already down by a lot, he opened to 2,000 and Juha Lauttamus three-bet to 5,200 from one seat over on the button. Daher called, then checked the {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop. Lauttamus bet enough to cover Daher's short stack and the latter folded.

Royal Flush for Piccioli

Niveau 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Bryan Piccioli
Bryan Piccioli

Now here's something you don't see every day. In fact, we didn't see it, but we heard the details from our colleagues from the PokerStars Blog.

Bryan Piccioli raised the hijack and Tamer Kamel defended his big blind. Both players checked the flop of {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and the {J-Spades} hit the turn. Kamel checked, and called the 3,200 bet that followed.

The {10-Spades} completed the board and Kamel checked. Piccioli bet 8,500 and Kamel called.

Kamel had a pretty good hand with {6-Spades}{2-Spades} for a flush. It was second-best, though, as Bryan Piccioli tabled {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} for a royal flush!

Bicknell Loses a Big One

Niveau 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Until the river of a board {J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, a pot of almost 46,000 had emerged and Kristen Bicknell checked. Javier Gomez Zapatero moved all in for 38,100. Bicknell spent a long time in the think tank and the clock was called on her.

After around 30 seconds, Bicknell tossed in the chips and Zapatero showed the {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a full house. Bicknell mucked, but as it was an all in showdown her {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} were exposed and Bicknell had to forfeit half of her remaining stack on the river still.

[Removed:198] and Kurganov Play A Huge Pot

Niveau 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

[Removed:197] opened from first-position for 1,800 and Glib Kovtunov three-bet to 4,500 from the cutoff. Over on the button sat Igor Kurganov and he four-bet to 12,400. Both blinds folded and [Removed:198] five-bet to 33,500. Kovtunov folded, Kurganov called.

The flop came {J-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and [Removed:198] bet 24,000. Kurganov called.

As soon as the {Q-Diamonds} hit the turn, [Removed:198] asked how much Kurganov was playing.

"Forty-two, and there's hundred-twenty in the pot," Kurganov said with a smile.

[Removed:198] moved all in just a few seconds later.

Kurganov was shocked, slid his chair back a little and seemed very puzzled. At one point he rested his head on the rail, thinking long and hard about his decision. Like Negreanu sometimes does, Kurganov went over the possible combinations [Removed:198] could have.

"I for sure have six outs" he was heard saying at one point in the midst of dissecting what was going on.

Some minutes later, the clock was called. Eventually, with only a couple of seconds left to act, Kurganov committed his 41,800.

[Removed:198] wasn't happy he got called and reluctantly showed his {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Kurganov tabled {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} and raked in the huge pot as the {J-Hearts} hit the river. [Removed:198] sighed.

"I would definitely have folded, had I had more" Kurganov offered as comfort.

Sergeev Busts Detournel

Niveau 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Sergey Sergeev
Sergey Sergeev

On a three-way flop of {4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}, Xavier Detournel checked in the big blind and Kenny Hallaert bet 3,000 from the cutoff. Sergey Sergeev raised to 7,700 on the button and both opponents called.

The {7-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Detournel bet 21,500, Hallaert gave it some thought and folded with a sigh. Sergeev called rather quickly and the {3-Hearts} came on the river. Detournel shoved and Sergeev called to get shown {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. Slowly, Sergeev turned over his {A-Spades}{6-Clubs} and said "I win, better kicker."

Detournel was shocked and stood up from his chair, shaking his head. "Why do you bluff?" Sergeev asked before raking in the pot. At the same time, one table over, Bruno Lopes was eliminated as well.

Yet Another Record in Prague

Niveau 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

The field size of the €10,300 High Roller event has grown every year since the first time it has been hosted and there are more than three levels remaining today, along with the registration being open until 15 minutes prior to the start of Day 2. So far, there are 331 entries according to the tournament screens and that already beats last year's 315.

Add to that the fact that not many re-entries have been used thus far and the very last EPT High Roller will create a massive prize pool to make it a worthy final before the rebranding in 2017.
