Matous Houzvicek

Niveau 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Reigning National Champion Matous Houzvicek had one of the biggest stacks earlier. He has since seen his fortunes change, dropping back to little more than starting stack. Just now he won a small pot after opening in early position and getting one call from Nikolay Fal in the big blind. He barrelled on a {k-Spades}{a-Spades}{j-Hearts} board and took it down. Could this be the start of another upward trend?

Panyak Calls Down Zholgaliev

Niveau 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

On a {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs} board Aben Zholgaliev bet 7,500 from under the gun and Maksim Panyak called in the next position.

The river was the {k-Clubs}. Zholgaliev bet 16,000 and Panyak contemplated his decision before calling. Zholgaliev turned over {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for ace high and Panyak took down the pot with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

Ivanov Doubles Through Avanesyan

Niveau 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Valeriy Avanesyan opened in early position and Denis Ivanov moved all-in for 17,100 in middle position. All other players passed and Avanesyan made the call.

Denis Ivanov: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Valeriy Avanesyan: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

It was a flip with Ivanov holding the slight edge and with no ace or queen on the {7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Clubs} board, Ivanov netted the double.

Aleksandr Lakhov
Aleksandr Lakhov

Aleksandr Lakhov is out of the running, after busting in the last level before the dinner break. Currently sat in 12th place on Russia's all-time money list with $3.5 million recorded in live tournament earnings.

Lakhov chose not to re-enter before the late registration closes but we may well see more of him in later events in the festival.

Gristenko Cracks Aces with Deuces

Niveau 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

With 35,000 chips in the middle there were still four players in the hand. One checked and Nikolay Chebotarev bet 23,500. Another folded before Roman Gristenko called.

The first player folded and the two went heads-up to a {8-Diamonds} river. Gristenko had around 14,000 behind and Chebotarev bet enough to put his opponent all in. Gristenko called.

Chebotarev showed {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} but Gristenko held {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and had flopped a set. Chebotarev was clearly tilted and slammed his cards into the table and knocked his chip stack over in apparent frustration.
