Niveau 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina
Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina

Action folded around to Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina in the small blind. She put in the last of of her 3,800 stack and was called by Bruno Fitoussi in the small blind.

Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina: {q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Bruno Fitoussi: {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}

The ace-high held as Shashikhina was unable to connect as the board ran out with the {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

Waigel Continues Early Hot Run Once More

Niveau 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Ezequiel Waigel
Ezequiel Waigel

Jussi Nevanlinna was spotted all-in and at risk for what appeared to be 39,000 in total. He was looked up by the red-hot running Ezequiel Waigel, who was sitting behind a huge tower of chips.

Jussi Nevanlinna: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Ezequiel Waigel: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop changed nothing whatsoever while the {9-Hearts} turn gave Waigel a flush draw. Instead of another heart, he got there on the {10-Diamonds} river to eliminate Nevanlinna.

"Running hot," another player at the table remarked and Waigel replied "that's my job" with a smile on the face.

Lococo Wins One All-In; Loses One

Niveau 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Alejandro "Papo MC" Lococo
Alejandro "Papo MC" Lococo

Picking up the action on the {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, Hubert Matuszewski check-jammed for around 19,000 and Alejandro "Papo MC" Lococo called with the far bigger stack at his disposal.

Hubert Matuszewski: {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Alejandro Lococo: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}

The flush draw bricked and instead, it was Lococo who improved further on the {2-Clubs} turn and {a-Spades} river.

Shortly after, Lococo raised and called the three-bet jam by Yannick Jobin from one seat over.

Yannick Jobin: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Alejandro Lococo: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}

The dominated pair almost got there again on the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} board but Jobin survived.

Aldemir Knocked Out by Martinez

Niveau 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Koray Aldemir
Koray Aldemir

Jon Martinez raised it up to 3,200 and then saw the shove by Koray Aldemir follow from two seats over. The push by the 2019 WSOP Main Event champion was for 32,200 and Martinez called for around half of his remaining stack.

Koray Aldemir: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Jon Martinez: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop seemingly locked up the early double for Aldemir but the {q-Spades} turn and {10-Clubs} river runout gave Martinez broadway.

Other players at the table remarked how big a name Aldemir was after his success in Las Vegas and Yucel Eminoglu added "he would have been dangerous if he doubled."

Gulseven Takes From Speranza

Niveau 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Erdal Gulseven
Erdal Gulseven

Erdal Gulseven tangled with Gianluca Speranza and check-called a bet worth 8,500 on the {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades} turn. He then also check-called for another 16,500 on the {2-Diamonds} river and Speranza tabled the {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. Gulseven had that beat with the {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for two pair and Speranza let out a loud sigh.

Welcome to Day 2 of the 2021 PokerStars EPT Prague €5,300 Main Event

Tournament Room

The return of the PokerStars European Poker Tour to European soil has been a thorough success with record-breaking numbers throughout the festival already. For the third year in a row, the marquee EPT Prague €5,300 Main Event has attracted a field of more than 1,150 entries in the King's Casino at the Hilton Hotel in Prague.

A potential record in the capital of the Czech Republic is still in sight as the late registration remains open until the start of Day 2 at noon local time. Back in 2016, Jasper Meijer van Putten defeated a field of 1,192 entries and claimed a top prize of €699,300 after cutting a deal with Marton Czuczor. Two years later, Paul Michaelis came out on top of 1,174 entries to claim the coveted trophy while Mikalai Pobal became the second two-time champion of the series in 2019 after defeating a field of 1,154 entries.

While Michaelis and Pobal were not spotted at the tables, van Putten was one of several former EPT champions in contention on Day 1a and Day 1b but failed to advance. The same also applied to former Prague winner Kalidou Sow, who entered twice without success. Hossein Ensan (135,000), and Salvatore Bonavena (49,800) have their hopes alive to lift the trophy in Prague once more.
