Kent Staahle
Kent Staahle

Kent Staahle raised to 2,500 in the cutoff and Aleksejs Ponakovs three-bet to 9,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Staahle called to see a flop of {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

The {8-Clubs} paired the board on the river and Staahle fired out another bet of 100,000. Ponakovs quickly called and Staahle showed {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a full house and the best hand to scoop a monster pot in the opening level.

Sam Grafton

Gregoire Auzoux innocently raised to 4,000 in middle position and the action folded to Sam Grafton in the big blind.

"What's up buddy?" Grafton questioned as he threw in a call.

"Are you just trying to take my money?" Auzoux replied.

"I'm probably just going to check-fold," was Grafton's insight. The flop came {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Grafton quickly checked. "See, this one's easy for you."

Auzoux bet 5,000 and Grafton instantly mucked his cards.

Aleksejs Ponakovs: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Elias Talvitie: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Kent Staahle: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Ponakovs' aces held on for a triple up. Staahle managed to scoop the side pot and Talvitie was the first eliminated today.

Suvarna Makes a Straight, Grafton Eliminates Auzoux

Niveau 4 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Santhosh Suvarna
Santhosh Suvarna

Santhosh Suvarna raised it up on the button and Mikalai Vaskaboinikau reraised to 20,000 in the small blind. Suvarna called and the flop read {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. Vaskaboinikau led out with a bet of 20,000 and Suvarna called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {q-Clubs} on the river. Vaskaboinikau flicked in a bet of 25,000 and Suvarna raised to 105,000. Vaskaboinikau looked him up and Suvarna tabled {a-Spades}{5-Spades} for the best hand.

At another table, there was a pot of over 150,000 with the board reading {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Sam Grafton checked from the big blind and Gregoire Auzoux shipped all in for 214,500. Grafton briefly thought before making the call.

Auzoux turned over {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a pair and a flush draw but needed to improve against the {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} of Grafton. It was the {j-Spades} on the river that only improved Grafton to two pair and Auzoux was bounced from the tournament.

Wild Ride for Thorel, Grafton the Beneficiary

Niveau 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Fedor Holz was seen getting up from his seat as his pocket aces were cracked by Jean-Noel Thorel who turned a straight with jack-ten offsuit. Thorel built his stack up to around 330,000 but then disaster struck in the form of Sam Grafton.

The board read {q-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Thorel tossed in a bet of 25,000 into a pot of around 60,000. Grafton check-raised to 85,000 and Thorel responded with a three-bet to 160,000. Grafton called and the {6-Diamonds} spiked the river.

Grafton checked and Thorel ripped all in for 142,000. Grafton snapped him off and tabled {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a rivered straight. Thorel sat in disbelief as he was forced to show {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for top pair, while Grafton apologized for the suckout.

"You don't have to win the tournament on Day 1," Duco ten Haven pointed out as Grafton built a seven-figure stack already.

Gerard Pique: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Daniel Dvoress: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Pique managed to spike the last queen in the deck on the {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} flop to take a stranglehold on the hand. The {k-Clubs} on the turn gave Dvoress some outs but the {5-Clubs} on the river bricked out to give Pique a double-up.
