Lopes Moves Into Seven Figures

Niveau 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Bruno Lopes
Bruno Lopes

The action folded to Bruno Lopes in the small blind who just limped in. Dominik Nitsche made 35,000 from the big blind and Lopes called. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Lopes check-called a bet of 20,000 from Nitsche.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and Lopes checked again. Nitsche splashed in a bet of 80,000 and Lopes stuck around to see the {a-Diamonds} on the river.

After sulking in his chair, Lopes checked again while letting out a silent sigh. Nitsche announced a bet of 150,000 and Lopes snap-called. "I have a flush," Nitsche said but Lopes quickly turned over {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} for a full house to win a monster pot.

Staahle Gets Unlucky

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Kent Staahle
Kent Staahle

Manig Loeser raised it up in early position and Kent Staahle shoved all in for 100,000 on his left. The action folded back to Loeser who called to put Staahle at risk.

Kent Staahle: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Manig Loeser: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The flop came {6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} which boded well for Staahle. The {5-Clubs} hit the turn which gave Loeser a straight draw but Staahle also picked up a flush draw. However, it was the {7-Diamonds} on the river that made Loeser's straight and Staahle was eliminated.

Aces, Kings, and Queens

Niveau 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

Sam Greenwood raised to 12,000 from under the gun and Sirzat Hissou three-bet to 34,000 on his left. Arnaud Mattern four-bet shoved all in for 127,000 in the cutoff and Joao Vieira also pushed all in for 146,000 on the button. The blinds folded as did Greenwood but Hissou called to put both players at risk.

Arnaud Mattern: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Joao Vieira: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Sirzat Hissou: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Mattern remained in a comfortable lead with his pocket aces. The {10-Diamonds} hit the turn which changed nothing. Vieira pushed one of his kings toward the board as if to magnetize another one from the deck, but it was the {j-Clubs} on the river that allowed all three players to remain in the tournament.

Mateos Goes from Chopping to Out

Niveau 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos raised to 4,000 from under the gun and was called by Thomas Muehloecker a couple of seats over. Conor Beresford three-bet to 19,000 in the small blind and Mateos four-bet shoved all in for just over 50,000. Muehloecker folded but Beresford quickly called.

Adrian Mateos: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Conor Beresford: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

It looked inevitable that the two would chop up the pot, but the flop of {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} gave Beresford the freeroll. The {q-Hearts} on the turn gave Beresford the flush right away and the {4-Clubs} on the river was insignificant.

Sirzat Hissou
Sirzat Hissou

At 12:30 pm. local time, the €25,000 EPT High Roller kicks of Day 2 with late registration or reentry still possible until that moment. The 2022 PokerStars European Poker Tour presented by Monte-Carlo Casino®️ is coming to an end with two more days to play down but the action will be hot and heavy all day long. There were 160 entries collected on Day 1 and 69 of them made it nicely through to Day 2.

Sirzat Hissou is coming back with a big chip lead of 359,000 in chips which is worth 40 big blinds more than the 294,800 Troy Quenneville amassed on Day 1. Completing the top five at the start of the day are Orpen Kisacikoglu, Kent Staahle, and Steve O'Dwyer.

But as expected, there are still so many players left in the field that you'd see in any High Roller regularly. Rainer Kempe, Byron Kaverman, Cedric Schwaederle, Andrey Andreev, Erik Seidel, Jean-Noel Thorel, Fabian Quoss, Alexandros Kolonias, and Mike Watson are some of the players who have some work ahead of them as they can be found at the bottom of the chip counts.
