Welcome to Day 1 of the €10,300 EPT Paris High Roller

Trophy
Trophy

It's time for the €10,300 High Roller held as part of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris. Day 1 of the event is set to kick off today at 12:30 p.m. local time at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile.

The event will run for three days and players will have just a single reentry to stamp their mark on the tournament. Registration is open until the end of Day 1.

Players will start with 50,000 chips and blinds start at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. This means starting stacks at the first blind level will be 250 big blinds deep. Day 1 will play for ten 60-minute levels with a 20 minute break every two levels and 75 minute break at the end of level six.

Kannapong Thanarattrakul won the last €10,300 EPT High Roller event, which was held as part of EPT Prague. He outlasted a field of 274 entries to take home a prize of €543,750.

As is expected in an event of this calibre, plenty of familiar faces are already registered for the event, including Masato Yokosawa, Byron Kaverman, who recently came fourth in the PCA Super High Roller for over $1 million, and Dominik Nitsche, who's list of poker accomplishments is extensive.

Also registered for the event are a few players who are returning off the back of recent EPT results. Dragos Trofimov came third in the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event in 2022 and will be looking for another final table score. Julien Sitbon bagged a first place finish in a freezeout event in Monte Carlo the same year. And Antoine Labat finished just shy of the final table of the €10,300 EPT Barcelona High Roller last year.

Of course, many more players will register before the event and over the course of Day 1.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for live updates direct from the tournament floor.

Big Blind on Blind Battle Goes Way of Vieira

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Joao Vieira
Joao Vieira

Joao Vieira has joined the fray and immediately got caught up in a big pot during a blind versus blind situation against Justin Saliba. There was already a whopping 14,800 in the middle on a flop of {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} when Vieira put out a bet of 13,000. Saliba thought for a while, then called.

On the {3-Hearts} turn Vieira used a time bank extension before ultimately deciding to check. His opponent did the exact same actions, and the two saw the river {7-Clubs}. Now Vieira chose to aggress again, and bet 14,000. After a little while, Saliba let his hand go, and Vieira shipped a sizable pot.

After the hand, the two players and the dealer had a discussion on exactly how many time bank extensions were used by each player during the hand. Some decisions took longer than the shot clock allowed, but not every time an extension was given to the dealer, leading to some confusion. In the end, they figured it out and the table went on to the next hand.

Guilbert Loses Early On

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Johan Guilbert
Johan Guilbert

Johan Guilbert and Timothy Adams were playing for a pot of 17,500 on a completed board of {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Adams checked the action to Guilbert, who put in half of his stack. The bet was 17,100, but Adams quickly made it double that by putting Guilbert all-in. Guilbert was apparently caught in a steal attempt, seeing as he instantly threw away his cards.

Not a good start for ''YoH ViraL'', but he still has plenty of room to maneuver his stack.

Adams Eliminates Kim; Chips Up To Twice Starting Stack

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Namhyung Kim raised to 1,000 and Timothy Adams shoved to put the rest of Kim's stack at risk. Kim called and the cards were flipped.

Namhyung Kim: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Timothy Adams: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

The board ran out {4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Kim was ahead for most of the runout, but Adams caught a pair of jacks on the river to bust Kim out of the tournament.

Adams ended up losing a small pot to Jules Dickerson in a blind versus blind clash the next hand, but has still chipped up to more than twice the starting stack since the start of the day.

Lin Straddles, Can't Bluff Shimizu

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Ren Lin pulled out a cash game move by straddling to 1,000 from under the gun before the cards were dealt and Carlos Zanoni called from the hijack before Nozomu Shimizu three-bet to 6,600 from the button.

Shimizu yelled something in Japanese and Lin and table mate Sung Hyun both burst out laughing before Lin and Zanoni both called.

All three players checked on the {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop and the same action took place on the {k-Diamonds} turn. Lin and Zanoni both checked on the {10-Hearts} river and Shimizu bet a tiny 1,000 before Lin check-raised to 15,000. Zanoni folded and Shimizu called.

Lin let out a laugh to show he was beat before turning over {a-Spades}{5-Spades} for ace-high, while Shimizu showed {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} to win the pot with a pair of kings.

"YAY!" he celebrated.

"You straddle this time!" Lin ordered.

"I'm tired," replied Shimizu.

Spasov's Set Gets Gahl Gone

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Simeon Spasov
Simeon Spasov

The red all-in triangle was in front of Simeon Spasov in the hijack. He had bet enough to put Sebastian Gahl in the small blind all in on a completed board of {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

Gahl had 17,300 chips behind in a pot just a little over that amount. After a little time spent in the tank, Gahl made the call for his tournament life.

Sebastian Gahl: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Simeon Spasov: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Spasov's set bested Gahl's top pair and he left the tournament room. In the meantime, Spasov is sitting on a stack worth over two starting stacks.

Livschitz Triples in Three-Way All-In

Niveau 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Victoria Livschitz
Victoria Livschitz

The last hand before the break, in the previous level, saw four players heading to a three-way all-in situation.

The action started when Hakim Zoufri raised to 1,100 from middle position. It folded to Ivan Deyra on the button, who flat called. Small blind Jamil Wakil and big blind Victoria Livschitz followed suit, and the quartet saw a flop.

A straight flush board of {2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs} was what the deck presented the players with. The first three players to act checked to Deyra, who put out a bet of 1,500. All players still liked their hand enough to see a turn with, and they all called.

The {8-Diamonds} turn is where the hand really took off. After everyone checked to Deyra once more, he raised his bet sizing to 5,500. Wakil quickly got out of the way, but Livschitz looked at her last 13,800 chips, sighed, and put them in the middle. Zoufri then used a time extension before putting in six T-5,000 chips. The 30,000 raise was enough to cover Deyra's 22,700 stack.

Deyra responded by throwing all his time bank cards towards the dealer, indicating that he was going to be in the tank for a while. When he emerged, he had two of them left, and had decided to make the call.

Victoria Livschitz: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Ivan Deyra: {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Hakim Zoufri: {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}

Livschitz had the nuts, leaving Deyra drawing dead for the main pot. Zoufri had a set and thus needed the board to pair to scoop the entire pot.

The river was the {j-Clubs} and Livschitz tripled, while Deyra's straight won him the side pot. Livschitz could not believed what had happened, as all three players left to quickly took what remained of their break.

Obara Rivers Tomovic and Is Among Chipleaders

Niveau 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Jun Obara
Jun Obara

Jun Obara raised from middle position to 1,500 and Axel Hallay called from the hijack. Aleksandar Tomovic then made it 6,500 to go from the big blind. Obara and Hallay both put in the calling chips, and it was three players to the flop.

That flop fell {a-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Tomovic led out for 6,500 chips. Obara called and Hallay got out of the way. The {9-Diamonds} turn saw another bet by Tomovic, this time for 7,000. Again, Obara called rather quickly.

The river was the {q-Spades} and this time Tomovic slowed down and checked. Obara did not have to think long before in he put a stack of T-5000 chips, effectively putting Tomovic all in for around 18,500.

Tomovic reached the end of his shot clock and tossed in a time bank extension. He did not need much of it, however, as he put in the call not five seconds later.

Obara showed that he had rivered two pair with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Tomovic frustratingly showed his {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} that was good until the river. He tossed the cards face-up in the middle and took his leave.

Meanwhile, Obara is now playing well over three starting stacks, counting him among the chipleaders of the tournament.

Grafton Gets Three Streets of Value With Queens

Niveau 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Diogo Machado made a hijack raise to 1,600 and Omar Lakhdari called in the small blind. Sam Grafton took a quick glance across at his opponent before reraising to 7,000. Machado and Lakhdari both called.

The flop came {6-Spades}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Lakhdari checked and Grafton made a continuation bet of 5,500. Machado called and Lakhdari folded, meaning two players would see the turn.

The turn was the {9-Spades} and Grafton bet out for 8,000, which Machado called. The final card came the {6-Diamonds} and Grafton led again, this time putting in a large bet of 13,600, which represented most of his opponent's stack. Machado did make the call, leaving himself just a few thousand behind.

Grafton flipped over {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} for an overpair to the board. Machado mucked his hand and the chips were pushed over to Grafton, who has made good progress since entering the event and is now sitting on over 80,000 chips.
