Scharo Shows the Bluff

Niveau 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Shira Scharo
Shira Scharo

Shira Scharo raised to 25,000 from the hijack and Maria Lampropulos defended out of the big blind.

Lampropulos check-called a bet of 15,000 from Scharo on the 4AJ flop.

After Lampropulos checked the 5 turn, Scharo shoved for Lampropulos' remaining 80,000. Lampropulos went deep into the tank, thinking for around two minutes. Eventually, she settled on a fold. Scharo turned over 1010 for just a pair of tens for a bluff.

Notables such as Alexandra Loveless, Huifang Zhang, Jen Shahade, Marle Spragg and Shiina Okamoto all put up a good fight, although fell short of a bag into Day 2. Also among the familiar faces were Iermolcheva and Maria Lampropulos, who both secured at least a minimum-cash and a seat at the final two tables in Day 2 today.

Iermolcheva has a recorded total of $774,643 in tournament winnings. Her biggest score this year so far came from winning one of the PokerNews Daily Deepstack Tournaments during the 2024 WSOP in Las Vegas, taking home $17,151. Iermolcheva is returning with over 30 big blinds to start the day, so has a comfortable start to Day 2 after calling a bluff and doubling her stack late in Day 1.

Maria Lampropulus

Maria Lampropulos also made it through to Day 2 but bagged the shortest stack of the remaining players (123,000), coming back today with just over 12 big blinds. She will be looking to build her stack early in the day to remain in the tournament after losing some chips in the last hand of the day. The same hand also knocked out Amy Leonard on the bubble, with Weng Chien-Chih collecting the chips.

The play will commence today, Saturday, September 7th at noon local time. Play will resume on Level 19 with 24 minutes remaining in the Level. The blinds resume at 5,000/10,000 with a 10,000 big blind ante and play will continue until a winner is crowned.

PokerNews will following all the action as the event plays down to a winner, so be sure to stick with the live updates to keep up with all the action.
