Cards were on their backs and stacks were in the middle, with Shukhrat Fayziev all in for 45,000 and at-risk versus Jessica Teusl.
Shukhrat Fayziev: A♥10♣
Jessica Teusl: 7♦7♣
Teusl was ahead in the race, and Fayziev seemed to be heading for the exit after the J♠5♥6♣ flop and K♣ turn. However the A♣ rolled off on the river to send Fayziev the double-up.
Fintan Hand and Leonid Sidelkovskiy were heads up on a board of J♥4♠2♥6♠ with approximately 100,000 already in the middle.
Sidelkovskiy checked from early position and Hand bet 50,000 on the button. Sidelkovskiy called.
The 6♦ completed the board and Sidelkovskiy checked. Hand quickly checked behind and tabled A♥K♦. Sidelkovskiy turned over Q♠J♠ for jacks-up and was sent the large pot.
Action was on the flop on a board of 7♣9♥K♠ and both Casimir Siere and Ion Tabacaru checked. Shankui Li bet 7,000 and Siere check-raised all in for 20,000. Tabacaru called and Li folded his hand.
Tabacaru had K♣8♠ for a pair of kings, but Siere turned over K♦10♥ for a pair of kings with a higher kicker.
The turn was the J♣ and river the 6♠. Siere's kicker played and he won the pot to double up his stack.
Javier Guevara raised from the small blind and Fintan Hand came along from the big blind.
On the flop of 10♠4♣3♣, Guevara check-called a bet of 7,000 from Hand.
The turn brought a J♥ and agan Guevara checked, then Hand sized up to 40,000. Guevara rechecked his cards and was debating for around a minute before he finally decided to fold.
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 18th episode, Connor speaks with author and psychologist Maria Konnikova about her family leaving Russia to come to the US, writing her first story in kindergarten, being mentored by Steven Pinker at Harvard, meeting Erik Seidel for the first time and her 2020 bestseller The Biggest Bluff that explored her poker journey.
Konnikova, a PokerStars ambassador, also talked about her research for an upcoming book into cheating in poker and other games, as well as game integrity rule changes implemented at EPT Barcelona that Konnikova said needed to go even further.
"I think what PokerStars has done is amazing. I think you need to go a step further and not have any electronics anywhere on the table," said Konnikova. "Like, I think phones need to be on the floor, in your bag."
"I would actually also ban sunglasses because ... there's so much technology that (that can enable cheating)."
Action folded around to the blinds, where Yunkyu Song shoved for his last 40,000 from the small blind and Bjorn Kozenkai called from the big blind having Song covered.
Yunkyu Song: K♣7♥
Bjorn Kozenkai: A♥10♣
Song would need some help against Kozenkai's ace, but the 4♦3♠2♣10♥6♠ runout needlessly paired Kozenkai's ten to eliminate Song just before dinner break.
