Mizzi Has a Lead, Looking to Extend the Series

Sorel Mizzi flopped a full house and then got paid off when he bet the river. He is now in the lead against Pascal Lefrancois with the blinds getting pretty big at this point in the match. Lefrancois, who is undefeated so far in the GPL playoffs will have to get a little lucky if he wants to close out the series and remain undefeated.

Lavallee Beats Rast, Nationals Leads 5-3

Jason Lavallee won his second of three matches against previously undefeated Brian Rast. Lavallee and Rast have offered some of the best heads up play of the finals so far. Lavallee now puts the Montreal Nationals one game away from being the first-ever GPL Champions.

On one of the key hands, Jason Lavallee limped the small blind and Brian Rast checked his option.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Rast bet 22,000 with {q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Lavallee called with {9-Spades}{5-Spades}.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and Rast bet again, this time making it 55,000. Lavallee called.

The river was the {10-Spades} and Rast bet a third time. He bet 129,800. Lavallee agonized for about one and a half minutes before calling and winning the hand with a pair of fives.
