Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 13th episode, Connor speaks with 888poker ambassador and Twitch streamer Ian Simpson, who talked about first learning poker as a kid, getting a degree in biotechnology and becoming a biology teacher, poker streaming and his breakout year of live poker in 2013 that saw him winning the Irish Poker Open for $339,604.
Simpson also discussed the importance of being a responsible poker ambassador and how science can change the world for the better.
Spanish Poker Festival Team Pro Ibon Berriozabal opened from early position, then El Mehdi Mbarek to his left three-bet. All the other players folded to Berriozabal who four-bet all-in 60,700. "To respect my image I have to call" Mbarek said while making the call.
Ibon Berriozabal: A♠A♦
El Mehdi Mbarek: K♠K♣
The dealer fanned a board of 10♣2♠J♥Q♥K♦ where Mbarek hit a set on the river. But this last king completed Berriozabal's straight, so the Spanish player doubled up.
Sandy Dewals opened from under the gun, then Javier Tsunamy in the big blind raised for more than Dewals' stack. She seemed surprised by this move, but after a few seconds, she called for her last 22,100.
Sandy Dewals: A♣8♦
Javier Tsunamy: K♣K♥
Dewals found no help on Q♠3♦J♦J♣3♣ and she was eliminated.
Moments after [Removed:482] arrived at the table, El Mehdi Mbarek and Samiyel Duzgun found themselves in a blind versus blind situation on a board of 9♥J♥9♦9♠.
Mbarek in the small blind bet 6,000, and he was called by Duzgun. Then on the Q♣ river, Mbarek bet big, asking for 25,000.
Duzgun went into the tank and decided to fold a J♦ face up. Mbarek let him discover one of his cards, and Duzgun flipped over the 10♥.
