Also among the top ten are Nichan Khorchidian (1,025,000) and Felipe Ketzer (1,009,000), both of whom have come very close to capturing a Merit Poker Main Event title. Khorchidian came runner up to Mohamed Mokrani in the 2023 Merit Poker Western Series Main Event, ultimately finishing in second place for $252,000.

Ketzer, known for his accomplishments on both the live and online felts, came third in that event and then just two months later he outdid that performance with a runner up finish in the 2024 Merit Poker Carmen Series Main Event for $249,200, ultimately losing to Elie Farah in heads-up play. With a stack worth over 150 big blinds going into Day 3 Ketzer will be in a great position for another deep run in this event. Mokrani and Farah also both advanced to Day 3 with 346,000 and 420,000 respectively.

Others to make it through to the end of Day 2 include Timur Margolin (871,000), Andrey Pateychuk (577,000), Nikolay Fal (546,000), Simone Andrian (506,000), Dmitry Yurasov (361,000) and Dmitry Gromov (361,000). Some notables who played Day 2 but fell before the end of the night include Fabio Peluso, Alessio Isaia and Darius Neagoe.

Day 3 picks up tomorrow at noon local time with the blinds at 4,000/8,000 and an 8,000 big blind ante, with the money bubble expected to burst midway through the day. As always, stay tuned to Pokernews as we bring you all the action from the moment cards are in the air until a winner is crowned on the final day, taking place December 01.

Nader Rolls the Dice and Doubles Up

Niveau 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Alfred Nader
Alfred Nader

Mustafa Biz opened from middle position and Yaniv Shushan three-bet to 25,000 from the cutoff. Alfred Nader cold-called from the big blind, then Biz shoved for around 150,000. Shushan took his time before he folded, and Nader called off his stack of almost 125,000, which left him at risk.

Alfred Nader: 33 All in
Mustafa Biz: AK

Nader was surely pleased to find that he was in a flip and his pocket threes held onto their lead on the 6Q2 flop. A 4 on the turn added a meaningless straight draw to Nader, and he improved to a set on the 3 river to double up.

"Yesssssss!" shouted Nader as the three came down on the river.

Chen Makes Huge Backraise Shove on the River, Stacks Matin

Niveau 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Zhen Chen
Zhen Chen

On a full board of 2Q3K4, there were around 70,000 chips in the pot when Andrej Tekel bet 7,000 on the river and Zhen Chen called. Kianoosh Matin then put in a sizable raise to 59,000, which Tekel called. Chen was next to act and to the surprise of the entire table, he back-raised all-in covering both opponents.

"Wow! Ace-five?" asked Matin, who had around 350,000 behind and had to consider Tekel still to act.

"This could be the sickest bluff I've ever seen," said Matin, who eventually called after a few minutes of deliberation. Tekel didn't have much of a decision and laid his hand down given the action in front.

Chen then revealed top set with KK, and Matin's smaller set with 44 was no good, which meant he was eliminated.

Saad's Aces Taken Down by Lahmani's Kings

Niveau 14 : Blinds 2,000/3,500, 3,500 ante
Elie Saad
Elie Saad

Elie Saad was under the gun and opened up the action, only to be three-bet by Oshri Lahmani to 20,000 in the next seat. The two players then got their stacks into the middle with Saad at risk for around 100,000.

Elie Saad: AA All in
Oshri Lahmani: KK

Saad was on the right side of a cooler, but there was still a runout of five cards to sweat. The flop of 47J was safe for Saad and he even picked up a backdoor flush draw, but the K on the turn was the worst card in deck for the Lebanese player as his opponent improved to a set. Only an ace on the river could save Saad, but instead the 3 rolled off, which meant Lahmani took the pot.

Kashani Doubles Through Hassan

Niveau 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,500, 3,500 ante
Arian Kashani
Arian Kashani

Amir Hassan opened to 7,000 from the hijack and was called by a player in the cutoff before Arian Kashani three-bet to 30,000 from the button. Hassan called while the cutoff got out of the way.

The flop came 449. Hassan checked and Kashani bet 15,000. Hassan check-raised to 45,000 and Kashani called.

On the 5 turn Hassan bet 60,000 and was again called by Kashani.

Hassan checked the 8 river and Kashani moved all in for 68,500. Hassan made the call and showed two pair with JJ. Kashani turned over trips with A4 to secure a full double up through his opponent.

Noja Collects the Rest of Skhirtladze's Stack

Niveau 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,500, 3,500 ante
Danielle Noja
Danielle Noja

Danielle Noja opened from under the gun and Tamazi Skhirtladze shoved from middle position for around 50,000. When it got back to Noja, he felt in the mood to gamble.

"Go on then, I'll gamble with ya," he said.

Tamazi Skhirtladze: AK All in
Danielle Noja: 99

Noja was a slight favorite and maintained his lead going into the 572 flop. An 8 on the turn added a meaningless gutshot straight draw for Noja, and his pocket nines held up as the 3 hit the river.

"It's always good when you can beat ace-king with pocket nines," Noja added as he raked in the pot.

Mokrani Spikes a Six to Crack Isaia's Queens

Niveau 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,500, 3,500 ante
Mohamed Mokrani
Mohamed Mokrani

Mohamed Mokrani was all-in for his stack of around 90,000 and was way behind to the overpair of Alessio Isaia.

Mohamed Mokrani: 66 All in
Alessio Isaia: QQ

Mokrani was miles behind but catapulted himself into the lead on the 1063 flop as he made middle set. Isaia needed to find running spades or a queen, but the first of those options was eradicated on the 3 turn. The J river was close, but not close enough for Isaia as Mokrani's full house earned him an unlikely double-up.

Tsouloftas Attempts a Hero Call, Busts to Shcherbakov as a Result

Niveau 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Georgios Tsouloftas
Georgios Tsouloftas

In a five-bet pot, both Kirill Shcherbakov on the button and Georgios Tsouloftas in the hijack had seen a flop of 59Q where Tsouloftas check-called a bet of 40,000 from Shcherbakov.

Both players knuckled the table on the 5 turn and saw the 7 land on the river. Again, Tsouloftas checked to his opponent, and Shcherbakov shoved. Tsouloftas had around 220,000 behind and was in the tank for quite some time before he eventually decided to put himself at risk and called.

Shcherbakov then revealed pocket kings with KK, and Tsouloftas' hero call with 44 didn't get rewarded.

Kapustin Drills the River to Scoop Three-Way All-In

Niveau 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Denis Kapustin
Denis Kapustin

Chips went flying in on a flop of A48 between Denis Kapustin, Murat Bayyurt, and Stefanos Kechagias.

Murat Bayyurt: KJ All in
Stefanos Kechagias: 88 All in
Denis Kapustin: A4

Kapustin had the biggest stack of the trio, but was in the worst shape as his two pair was way behind the set of Kechagias. Bayyurt had the shortest stack and needed to make a flush without the board pairing in order to triple up.

The turn brought a 3, which changed nothing, but it was the unlikely A on the river that improved Kapustin to a full house, ending both Bayyurt and Kechagias.

Bayyurt momentarily thought he had won with a flush, but it was soon pointed out that both of his opponents had a full house.

With that pot, Kapustin joins the chip leaders with around 900,000!
