In under four hours, the next champion has been crowned in the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker 2020 (WCOOP) and it was Russia's "LeslieGroves" who came out on top of a field of 95 entries in WCOOP-16-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO, High Roller]. They denied Brazil yet another WCOOP title of the current festival as Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji had to settle for the runner-up spot.

After heading into the final day in the middle of the pack with 35 big blinds, they scored the two biggest bounty prizes by knocking out Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian in 4th place and Seiji in heads-up, which boosted the accumulated bounty prizes to a huge $152,422. On top of that came a cash prize of $111,206 for a combined payday of more than 26 times the buy-in.

It was not the first time they reached the final table of a major event on PokerStars as "LeslieGroves" finished 8th in one of the Stadium Series Freezeout Weekly Final - High: $2,100 NLHE. At the end of the festival, they finished 7th in the Stadium Series Freezeout Grand Final - High: $5,200 NLHE which came with a payday of $117,128.

On the final table, Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos proved to be a cat with many lives and doubled numerous times, most often through Martirosian. However, Mateos failed to earn a third WCOOP title and finished in 3rd place instead. Martirosian ended up in fourth place and earned a bigger payday than the Spaniard also thanks to knocking out Ole "wizowizo" Schemion and Joao "Naza114" Vieira in the same hand.

Action of the Final Day

After the bubble had burst the previous night and reduced the field to the final 10 with Mike “SirWatts” Watson as first player in the money, the final table bubble didn't take long to burst. Norway's "Kurtkaare" became the first casualty of the day and sent his chips and bounty over to Rodrigo "seijistar" Seiji. David "dpeters17" Peters as the shortest stack of all finalists made one pay jump but that was it as he departed next.

Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian remained at the top of the leaderboard throughout the early stages and essentially held half of the chips in play after knocking out Ole "wizowizo" Schemion and Joao "Naza114" Vieira in the same hand. Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin became his next victim to further boost the lead of the Russian, who has taken the High Roller scene by storm in the current year thus far.

However, Martirosian suffered several setbacks and kept doubling up shorter stacks to swing back and forth while still at the top of the leaderboard. Brunno "botteonpoker" Botteon then saw his kings cracked by the ace-four of "LeslieGroves" and departed in 5th place.

Mateos doubles six times in total throughout the final day and the last one vaulted the Spaniard into the lead when ace-king held against the king-queen suited of Martirosian. His lead didn't last for long as a three-bet jam with fives was called by Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji with ace-jack and two aces on the board lifted Seiji into the top spot. Within quick succession, Martirosian then lost a flip to "LeslieGroves" and Mateos sent his short stack to Seiji.

The heads-up duel started nearly even in chips but "LeslieGroves" quickly pulled into a comfortable and even commanding lead after winning most of the big showdown pots. Ultimately it all came to an end when "LeslieGroves" hit trips treys while Seiji connected with his queen-eight on a queen-high flop and the Brazilian found no runner-runner miracle.

The final day of the tournament was streamed on the PokerStars Twitch channel with cards-up coverage and commentary on a delay of at least 20 minutes. PokerNews will be providing live updates throughout the entire festival and you can check out the feature coverage and results of assorted WCOOP events right here!

The action kicked off with a rare button limp by Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji and he then called a raise to 480,000 by "LeslieGroves" in the big blind. On a flop of {q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, "LeslieGroves" continued for 200,000 to pick up a call and that led to the {6-Hearts} turn.

"LeslieGroves" made it 691,200 to go and Seiji then moved all in for 2,513,293 total, which was called after very few seconds of consideration.

"LeslieGroves": {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}

Seiji needed a queen and a queen only to avoid elimination but the river was a blank {9-Spades}. The Brazilian missed out on his first WCOOP title and had to settle for $50,390.63 in bounty prizes as well as $111,205.97 in cash prizes.

"LeslieGroves" has earned their first WCOOP title and scored the two biggest bounties on the final table, then held onto the own for a huge $152,421.87 payday. On top of that comes the $111,206.12 cash prize to further sweeten a final day of just four hours.

Overwhelming Lead for "LeslieGroves"

Niveau 27 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

A min raise to 320,000 by "LeslieGroves" resulted in the call of Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji in the big blind. The Brazilian check-raised the {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop from 224,400 to 1,120,000 and picked up a call.

The {9-Clubs} turn was checked and "LeslieGroves" bet the {10-Clubs} river for 2,044,000 to earn a call, tabling {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} as the winning hand.

That brought their lead to more than 9-1, however, Seiji pulled some big blinds back two hands later with a button raise and one continuation bet. Ultimately, Seiji's {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} won the pot despite four clubs on a {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} board.

Seiji Pulls Some Back for a Short-Lived Time

Niveau 27 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

At the start of the new level, Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji min-raised the button and was callled by "LeslieGroves" to see a flop of {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. A continuation bet of 244,400 was check-called and "LeslieGroves" check-folded the {q-Hearts} turn to a second barrel for 846,600.

Seiji then defended against a min-raise himself and check-raised the {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop from 224,400 to 880,000. "LeslieGroves" called and let go on the {2-Hearts} turn when Seiji made it 1,360,000 to go.

The next big pot canceled all that progress, however, as Seiji fell even further behind.

"LeslieGroves" returned the favor of a check-raise from 224,400 to 800,000 on the {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop. They bet the {q-Hearts} turn for 1,596,000 for Seiji to call and then bet the {3-Diamonds} river for 5,472,000. Seiji had fewer than that behind and folded.

Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji was able to maintain his stack but couldn't get any closer as of lately. Another button min-raise by Seiji saw "LeslieGroves" call in the big blind and check-call a bet of 196,350 on the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop.

On the {2-Spades} turn, "LeslieGroves" led for 325,941 and was called to then bet the {q-Diamonds} river for 541,062. Seiji gave it some thought and folded.

Big Pot for "LeslieGroves"

Niveau 26 : 70,000/140,000, 17,500 ante

Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji min-raised the button to 280,000 and was called by "leslieGroves" in the big blind.

On a flop of {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, "LeslieGroves" check-called a bet of 446,250 and did so again for 2,030,000 on the {2-Spades} turn.
