Keith Tilston Holds Big Lead at US Poker Open Main Event Final Table

Niveau 13 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Final Table chipleader Keith Tilston
Final Table chipleader Keith Tilston

On the last hand of the night, Brian Rast ran into Daniel Negreanu's aces to bubble the $50,000 US Poker Open Main Event and halt play on Day 2. The penultimate day of the Main Event lasted just three and a half levels as the field was reduced from 13 to the final five.

Keith Tilston returns on Day 3 with the chip lead, chased by Negreanu, Jake Schindler, Dan Smith, and Tom Marchese. Tilston, who is making his third final table of the festival, also led the USPO #03 $25,000 NLHE into the final table before finishing runner-up to Stephen Chidwick.

Day 2 kicked off with 13 players as US Poker Open Champion Stephen Chidwick, who had locked up the title when registration closed on Day 1, Poker Central founder Cary Katz, and Marchese all chose to re-enter and return to play when Day 2 got underway.

Chidwick was the first player to exit coming in with just 25 big blinds. Benjamin Pollak,Justin Bonomo, and Adrian Mateos were the next to depart leaving the field one elimination away from the unofficial final table. Ultimately, it would be Bryn Kenney running pocket sevens into Tilston's pocket aces to consolidate the field to the feature table.

Once the action got back underway, the field still needed to lose two players before the end of play as just the top fives spots would get paid. Katz nursed a short stack for the majority of play on Day 2 and the slump continued on the final table. Katz finally picked up a big hand and found a caller in Negreanu. Unfortunately, for Katz, Negreanu caught an ace on the flop with his ace-jack and Katz's jacks could not improve.

Play ended for the night not long after when Brian Rast three-bet shoved on Negreanu with ace-queen running right into Negreanu's pocket rockets. Though Rast did find some additional outs on the flop, the two aces held and the clock on Day 2 was paused.

The final table action will resume at noon local time at the Aria Resort & Casino and play down to a winner. Every hand will be streamed live with hole cards on PokerGO beginning at 1 PM and you can follow along with the PokerNews blog starting then.

Brian Rast Eliminated on the Money Bubble

Brian Rast Eliminated
Brian Rast Eliminated

Hand #4: Daniel Negreanu picked up {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} in the cutoff and raised to 22,000. Brian Rast also looked down at a premium holding of {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} on the button. Rast shipped all in for 392,000 and was instantly called by Negreanu.

Rast was in danger of falling just short of making the money and would need a lot of help. The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs} and as they say in poker, "There's always a sweat". The turn brought the {9-Clubs} and the river landed the {7-Diamonds}. Rast was unable to improve and was eliminated on the money bubble.

With the elimination of Rast, the final five players are all guaranteed at least $132,000. They will now bag up their chips and return tomorrow for the third and final day of the Main Event.

Katz Can't Run the Short Stack Any Longer

Niveau 13 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Cary Katz
Cary Katz

Daniel Negreanu opened to 22,000 from under the gun with {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Cary Katz shipped all in for his last 80,000 in the hijack holding {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. The action folded back to Negreanu who made an easy call.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Negreanu jumped out front with a pair of aces. The turn was the {5-Hearts} and Katz was left drawing to a single out once again. The {4-Diamonds} rolled off on the river and that spelled the end of Katz's run here in the Main Event.

Kenney Runs Into a Hot Tilston

Niveau 13 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

Bryn Kenney started with a raise from under the gun and was faced with a three-bet from Keith Tilston in the big blind. Kenney piled the rest of his chips into the middle and was snapped off by Tilston.

Kenney turned over pocket sevens but into the pocket aces of Tilston. With his tournament life on the line, Kenney would need to find a seven on the board in order to stay alive. Unfortunately for Kenney, the board ran out clean for Tilston and Kenney was eliminated.

There will now be a short break while the final seven players gather at the feature table.

Katz Triples Up to Stay Alive

Cary Katz piled his last 86,5000 in the middle under the gun with the {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and Tom Marchese looked him up with the {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} in the small blind. Dan Smith looked down at the {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} in the big blind and shoved over the top forcing Marchese out of the pot.

A {10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Spades} board swept out and Katz scored a big triple up.

Negreanu Out-Flops Tollerene

Niveau 12 : 3,500/7,000, 7,000 ante
Ben Tollerene
Ben Tollerene

Ben Tollerene three-bet to 29,000 preflop with the {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and Daniel Negreanu called holding the {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Negreanu binked the {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop and Tollerene bet 30,000.

Negreanu just flatted and the {2-Spades} hit the turn. Tollerene bet 70,000 and Negreanu check-called bringing the {3-Spades} on the river.

Negreanu checked one more time and snap-called Tollerene's shove to bust Tollerene in ninth place.

Only 10 Remain After Bonomo Eliminated

Niveau 11 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

After doubling up Bryn Kenney the hand before, Justin Bonomo was left with only three big blinds. Keith Tilston raised to 14,000 from the cutoff and Bonomo stuck in his last 21,000 from the small blind. Brian Rast called out of the big blind and Tilston also completed.

The flop fell {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} with Rast and Tilston left to battle in a side pot. Rast led out for 35,000 and Tilston made the call as the {a-Clubs} landed on the turn. Rast checked this time and Tilston fired a bet of 40,000. Rast called and the {8-Hearts} peeled off on the river.

Rast checked again and Tilston pushed in a bet of 80,000. Rast threw his hands up and went into the tank for over a minute. He eventually mucked his cards and Tilston tabled {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a straight. Bonomo turned over {k-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and was thus eliminated, bringing the tournament down to just 10 players.

Day 2 of Event #8: $50,000 No Limit Hold'em Main Event Kicks off at 2 PM with 13 Players Remaining

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

There will be just 13 players returning for Day 2 of Event #8: $50,000 No Limit Hold'em Main Event at the first ever US Poker Open. The tournament staff at the Aria Resort and Casino have called this tournament series another huge success and the same would go for Stephen Chidwick.

Chidwick will join his fellow competitors at the felt beginning at 2:00 P.M. local time, but as for the competition to become US Poker Open champion, Chidwick has already locked that up. With over $1.2 million in earnings throughout the opening seven events, Chidwick cannot be caught in the race for the inaugural trophy. Chidwick had, in what some are calling, one of the best weeks in poker, by making four final tables and winning two of the $25,000 events.

However, there is still some poker to be played and some serious money to be won. With a prizepool of $1,650,000 flashing before their eyes, the final 13 players will all have their sights set on the $660,000 first-place prize. It will be a race to the money today, as the tournament director has mentioned they will consider playing down to the final five players today, in order for everyone to be in the money when Day 3 arrives. Here is a look at what they will be playing for:

Payouts

PlacePrize (USD)
1st$660,000
2nd$429,000
3rd$264,000
4th$165,000
5th$132,000

Of those players returning, Brian Rast will be the one leading the way after bagging up a stack of 886,500 chips. Rast has chosen a select few events to compete in throughout the series and will be looking to make his first cash of the week. Following him is Event #5 winner, Ben Tollerene, with 620,500 chips. Tollerene collected $187,600 for his win and will hope to add to that total come tomorrow. Rounding out the top three stacks is Keith Tilston with 488,500 chips, who has resurfaced to the high-stakes tournament scene this week. Tilston currently sits in fourth place on the overall leaderboard and although he can't catch Chidwick, another strong finish this week would look good on his resume.

Some other big names to keep an eye on heading into Day 2 include Daniel Negreanu (461,000), Benjamin Pollak (454,000), Jake Schindler (449,000), and Bryn Kenney (445,000). The action will resume on level 11 with the blinds at 3,000/6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante. The 60-second time extensions will be refreshed to three per player at the start of the day.

One of the remaining tables is expected to be moved to the feature table at around 4:00 P.M. PST for live coverage on PokerGO. The live-stream will display the player's hold cards and will be on a 60-minute delay to protect the integrity of the game. At that time, the PokerNews blog will also be displayed on a delay to remain in sync with the live-stream.

You can follow along with the PokerNews live reporting team for all of the live updates throughout the event until a winner is crowned.
