Goldenbelt Having Fun With Berende

Niveau 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Paul Berende (at an earlier event)
Paul Berende (at an earlier event)

Over at table 21, Paul Berende has trended upwards to over the 100k mark and was involved in a hand against Marcel Goldenbelt. With the board completed at {J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, it was Goldenbelt who casually flicked in 15,000, twice the size of the pot.

"Ahh, why don't you bet a normal size man. Always the two times pot," Berende grumbled, albeit with a smile on his face. He considered Goldenbelt's range of hands, considering ace-jack a possibility, then folded his hand.

"Was it exactly ace-jack?" Berende pleaded, but Goldenbelt didn't show.

"We're going to do this more often," Goldenbelt laughed as he raked in the pot.

Stepanian Doubles Through Metaal

Niveau 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Down to his last 12,000 in chips, Wladimir Stepanian was all in and at risk against Govert Metaal. Stepanian held {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades} against Metaal's {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} but got all the help he needed as the board ran out {4-Spades}{K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to improve him to the nuts. Metaal chuckled as Stepanian hit all the cards to crush him.

Romero Slowly Building

Perhaps the most accomplished player in the field today is James Romero. The man from Portland, Oregon boasts over 2.6 million dollar in lifetime winnings, with an astonishing $1,938,118 ship at the 2016 WPT Five Diamond Classic as the most eye-catching result.

Romero was at the final table of the €3,500 High Roller earlier today but failed to make a cash. After busting, he jumped in the Main Event and is currently up to 53,000.

In his latest hand, Romero bet 4,000 on a {5-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board against Karl Otter, who called. The river was the {9-Spades} and Otter snap check-folded against a 9,500 bet from the American.

Post Coolers Van Brugge

Niveau 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

On the turn, the board was reading {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Kees van Brugge checked. Zeus Post bet 4,800 and Van Brugge made the call. The river was the {10-Spades} and Van Brugge checked again. Post bet 12,800 and Van Brugge snap-called.

Post showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for queens full of sevens, Van Brugge flashed the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} for the nut flush and dropped down to 11,000 in the process.

Hoekendijk Quickly Busts

Niveau 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Albert Hoekendijk
Albert Hoekendijk

It was a short affair for Hoekendijk, whose tournament came to an end just fifteen minutes after he entered. Hoekendijk already parted with more than two-thirds of his stack before the hand and his remaining chips subsequently went in.

In his final hand, Hoekendijk had called a three-bet out of position and was left with crumbs, which went in on an {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop.

"You probably have better," he said, and Tabak indeed did.

Albert Hoekendijk: {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Erik Tabak: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The turn brought the {6-Clubs} and Hoekendijk jumped up and called for a seven. The river was close but the {8-Hearts} wasn't what Hoekendijk needed and he went as quickly as he came.

"I had to wait for my money," Hoekendijk said, perhaps as an excuse for busting so fast. He went back to the finale table he busted from earlier to wait for his cash prize (3rd in the High Roller for €17,693) to be awarded.

"Why don't you play some roulette instead?" Kees van Brugge snidely remarked.
