Welcome to Day 3 of Event #25: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Eli Elezra
Eli Elezra

Two days of Event #25 are in the books and it's time to award another bracelet to a new winner as Day 3 of Event #25: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better is set to go with a 2 p.m. start to play down from 23 players to a winner.

Or will it be an old bracelet winner?

Old in the experienced sense, of course, but that's looking likely based on the chip counts heading into the final day. While chip leader Benjamin Dobson has never claimed WSOP gold, the next three players in the counts will be very familiar to anyone who has been following the WSOP over the last several years: Barry Greenstein, Jesse Martin and Eli Elezra. All three are multiple bracelet winners — Greenstein and Elezra with three and Martin with two — and while they all trail Dobson by a sizable margin, they're undoubtedly three of the competitors who bear watching as the tournament winds down.

Other notables heading into Day 3 include two men less famous for their poker play: James Woods and Matt Savage. The former a world-famous actor and the latter one of the premier tournament directors of the past couple of decades, both would make interesting winners as well.

When the tournament resumes at 2 p.m. local time, the remaining players will try to scoop — or at least chop — pots with limits of 10,000/20,000. They'll play down to a winner, who will claim $173,528 in prize money. Stay tuned to PokerNews to find out if one of the old hats, one of the recognizable names or some new face emerges to take it down.

Peter Brownstein: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} / {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades} / {Q-Clubs}

We arrived when the cards were on their backs. Alex Livingston was all in with four spades. He also picked up a low draw on sixth street but the river was a brick and Peter Brownstein eliminated him with aces.

Nicholas Derke Eliminated in 22nd Place ($4,899)

Niveau 21 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante
Nicholas Derke
Nicholas Derke

Trent Gundrum was facing a completion and two calls and he raised for most of his remaining chips with {3-Clubs} up. Barry Greenstein called, as did Nicholas Derke and Jesse Martin. On fourth, Derke bet with two to a low, Martin raised two suited low cards, Gundrum called off 7,000 and Derke reraised. He got the rest in on fith.

Gundrum: {6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}/{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{a-Spades}
Greenstein: {x-}{x-}/{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} - folded on fourth street
Derke: {4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}/{6-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Martin: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}/{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Gundrum would catch {3-Spades} and {5-Spades} to make two pair and a low. Derke bricked his low draw while Martin caught a {5-Clubs} to make a straight and scoop the side pot while chopping the main with Gundrum's superior low.

Joseph Gegan: {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} / {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} / {J-}
James Sievers: {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs} / {7-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} / {2-}

James Sievers completed and Joseph Gegan called with an ace out. They got the rest into the middle on fifth street with Sievers covering Gegan by a hair.

Sievers made a seven-low while Gegan's hand failed to pair. Sievers' ace-high was worse but he found a deuce on the river to scoop a pair and bust Gegan in 21st place.

Trent Gundrum: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} / {5-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs} / {7-Hearts}

Trent Gundrum could barely match Peter Brownstein's complete with his stack so they were all in already on third street.

Brownstein started with a pair of sixes and immediately improved to aces up while Gundrum paired his king. The rest of Gundrum's cards were blanks and he walked away in 20th place.

Peter Brownstein kept betting with low cards and a pair of fives up until Barry Greenstein put in his last 25,000 on sixth.

Brownstein: {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}/{5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Greenstein: {k-Spades}{7-Hearts}/{k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Greenstein was in rough shape against trips and made a useless two pair on the river when he peeled a {7-}.

James Woods was all in against Joel Tushnet when we arrived at the table. It looked like the money went in on sixth, but we couldn't tell what order the cards were dealt since they were all on their back.

Woods finished with {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, good for just eights. Tushnet had {2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Spades} so three jacks was a a winner and Woods took his leave while the other players drew new seats.

Paul Sexton Eliminated in 16th Place ($5,923)

Niveau 22 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Paul Sexton

Paul Sexton was on the bring-in with {4-Diamonds} but put in a complete bet for his last 12,000. Benjamin Dobson raised with {7-Diamonds} but Jesse Martin stuck around with {8-Diamonds}. Martin took over the lead on fifth and bet out with nines, folding out Dobson.

Dobson: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts} (folded on fifth street)
Martin: {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}/{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Sexton: {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}/{4-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Martin got {q-Diamonds} and {6-Spades} to finish with just the nines. But Sexton couldn't beat them after rolling over {8-Hearts} and {5-Hearts}.

Eli Elezra was the bring-in. He raised after Nicholas Kiley completed and the rest of Elezra's chips went in on fourth street when he made a pair of nines. Elezra also made a seven-low and scooped Kiley who couldn't improve his ace-high.

Kiley would soon go out in 15th place as he ran into Tim Finne's pair of sixes and a seven-low.

Kiley could peel a plenty of cards on the river to earn at least a half of the pot, but he peeled a jack and his final hand looked to be {K-}{Q-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{7-}{J-}.

Matt Savage Eliminated in 14th Place ($5,923)

Niveau 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante
Matt Savage
Matt Savage

Matt Savage got it all in the first round and was up against three opponents. That field was reduced to two and then one as Richard Monroe bet out Jesse Martin on fourth and Benjamin Dobson on fifth.

Dobson: {x-}{x-}/{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} (folded on fifth street)
Martin: {x-}{x-}/{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs} (folded on fourth street)
Savage: {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}/{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Monroe: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}/{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Savage was rightly pleased with his spot holding four to a flush and a low draw. However, he paired with the {8-Hearts} and then bricked with the {q-Spades}, leaving him busto as Monroe improved to aces up on sixth and held.
