Controversy Before Dinner

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

An issue has cropped up with the cards at Table 438. The supervisor has had to replace the deck at least twice that we've seen, and it's because the cards are getting creased. He brought another deck just now and instructed the dealer to inspect every folded hand until they can figure out who is creasing the cards. Eric Wasserson raised an objection because he said the table will play too slowly now, costing him a chance to use his big stack on the bubble. The supervisor stood by his decision, though, and every hand will be inspected from here on until the cards cease being marked or some other solution is found.

Players are on dinner for an hour.

Hughes' Pot-Sized Shove Gets Through

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

In the cutoff, Veselin Karakitukov made it 15,000 and found two callers in Ryan Hughes (button) and Joseph Liberta (big blind).

The {J-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} hit the felt and Karakitukov bet 27,000 in position. Hughes raised to 65,000 and Liberta cold-called. Karakitukov figured out that it was the right time to wave the white flag and released his hand into the muck.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and Liberta checked. Hughes asked what the size of the pot was and the answer was 205,000. He potted and Liberta asked if Hughes even had that much. It was counted at 196,500 and Liberta let his hand go after 30 seconds or so.

Makarov Shows Kurshumi a Bluff

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

On a board of {2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs}, Ardit Kurshumi had a bet of 40,000 in front of him. Alexey Makarov had raised all in for 135,000 more effective from the big blind. Kurshumi thought a couple of minutes and let it go, and Makarov rolled over {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}.

Cavanaugh Doubles Through Mizrachi

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Robert Mizrachi had James Cavanaugh all in preflop and at risk with the former holding {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Spades} and the latter {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Mizrachi took a big lead on {k-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Spades} as he held a pair and a flush draw but the {10-Clubs}, {j-Clubs} runout left him staring at the nut straight in disbelief. He sent 30,500 over.

Good Game, Baby

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen

Scotty Nguyen was on the button, betting 55,000 in the pot with the {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} flop out. Layne Flack check-called in the big blind and Thomas Zanot, sitting to Flack's left, folded.

"Good game, baby," Nguyen said before the turn card arrived.

The {10-Diamonds} landed on the table and Flack checked. Nguyen didn't waste a second and moved all in. Flack threw his cards away, showing he had a huge straight draw.

"Anything but a diamond and you would play tomorrow's tournament," Flack joked.

Nguyen showed him his hand in return, exposing the {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{J-}{6-}.

Laplante Eliminates Gronning

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

On a flop of {8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, Ryan Laplante bet 22,000 and Lars Gronning was thinking things over from the big blind. He then moved all in for about 75,000 and Laplante was in there with a snap-call holding {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for top set. Gronning was in awful shape with {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} for bottom two. The {9-Spades} turn gave him a chance but the {5-Spades} river didn't do it.

Aranda Raises the Turn

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Picking up the action on the turn, Noah Schwartz and Nicholas Aranda were in the middle of a battle of the blinds.

Schwartz led out 22,000 on {3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts} but Aranda pumped the price to 92,000. Schwartz thought about it for a while but ultimately decided to let it go.

Karapanos and Rocha Hit a Hollywood Board

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Alex Rocha made it 13,000 in the hijack, earning a call from small blind Dario Sammartino. Michail Karapanos squeezed to 55,000 out of the big blind and Rocha moved all in. Sammartino escaped while Karapanos called for his 99,500.

Karapanos: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}
Rocha: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The dealer rolled out a flop of {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, giving a full house to both players. Karapanos had the top boat so Rocha's kings full were trailing. Rocha, however, still had a chance to seize the pot should he spike the fourth king in the deck or a queen of clubs for a royal flush.

He wouldn't get there on the {5-Diamonds} turn and {9-Diamonds} river, however, and Karapanos' aces held.
