Welcome to Event #47: $1,000 Short Deck No Limit Hold'em

Welcome to WSOP Event #47: $1,000 Short Deck No Limit Hold'em at GGPoker.

This is the second short deck event on the schedule following Lev "LevMeAlone" Gottlieb shipping Event #43: $10,000 Short Deck No Limit Hold'em Championship a few days ago for $276,393 and a WSOP gold bracelet.

Today's one-day event is more affordable to the everyday poker player with a $1,000 buy-in and plenty of satellites for players to qualify in for a fraction of the cost.

If you aren't familiar with Short Deck, it is similar to no-limit Texas Hold'em except for the following:

  • 36 Card Deck (2's to 5's) removed from the deck.
  • Only the player on the button posts a blind.
  • Every player antes equal to the blind.
  • A flush beats a full house.
  • A-6-7-8-9 counts as a straight (also known as a wheel).

Today's action kicks off early at 12 p.m. GMT / 8 a.m. EDT and is expected to attract many players in the continent of Asia where Short Deck is very popular.

Players start off with a massive stack of 300,000 in chips. This equates to 300 big blinds with the button blind and antes starting at 1,000 and increasing slowly every 20 minutes.

The tournament allows for two re-entries per player during the three-hour late registration window.

The tournament is six-max until near the end as the final table will begin when there are just nine players remaining. The final table will also feature a different level structure with the button blind and antes increasing every 40 hands instead of increasing based on time.

With just under three hours to go till cards are in the air, there are 29 players currently registered for the event, including Pete Chen and GGPoker Ambassador Felipe Ramos.

Action gets underway at 12 p.m. GMT / 8 a.m. EDT, and PokerNews will be there to report the action until the first cards are virtually in the air until a winner is crowned.

Stay tuned at PokerNews to see who wins the gold bracelet and what bounds to be a huge prize in Event #47: $1,000 Short Deck No Limit Hold'em.
