WSOP Legend: 10-Time Bracelet Winner Phil Ivey

Niveau 33 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Few poker players have captured the attention of the poker universe quite like Phil Ivey. There have been plenty of champions of the game who crushed it at the felt, but none who built up the mystique of Ivey, who remains to this day arguably the most magnetic player in poker despite results that no longer match his days of utmost dominance.

A day after the anniversary of Ivey's induction into the Poker Hall of Fame, PokerNews examines the legacy of his WSOP success. Prior to 2000, Ivey didn't have any recorded WSOP cashes.

The 23-year-old didn't waste any time establishing himself as one of the top up-and-coming players. That year, after already making one final table and finishing fifth, Ivey secured his first bracelet. He beat none other than fellow Hall of Famer Amarillo Slim Preston heads up to win Event #14: $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, a rebuy event, for his first bracelet and $195,000. Three other Hall of Famers — Chris Bjorin, Phil Hellmuth and David "Devilfish" Ulliott — also competed at that final table, so shipping it was about more than just getting his first taste of gold. Ivey showed he could beat the best in the business.

Two years after that, though, would be when Ivey really showed he was the present and future of the game. In 2002, Ivey showcased his skills at limit poker in a big way.

Matusow Misses Club Draw to Fall in 30th Place

Niveau 33 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Mike "mouth123" Matusow moved all in for 348,690 from middle position and "eric_shun" called from the big blind.

Mike "mouth123" Matusow: {k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
"eric_shun": {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

"eric_shun" woke up with the granddaddy of all hands and Matusow was in trouble. The {j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop gave Matusow a club flush draw, but he missed when the {3-Diamonds} bricked the turn followed by the {k-Hearts} on the river.

Matusow took his leave in 30th place for $3,380.83.

Garosshen Bows Out in 27th Place

Niveau 34 : 25,000/50,000, 6,250 ante
Kevin Garosshen
Kevin Garosshen

Action on the table folded around to Kevin "GoneBananas" Garosshen who raised all in for 563,275 from the cutoff and Christopher "BasIle28" Basile called from the big blind.

Christopher "BasIle28" Basile: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
Kevin "GoneBananas" Garosshen: {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}

Garosshen was behind and nothing changed after the {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop.

The {k-Hearts} turn gave Garosshen more outs drawing to the flush but the {k-Diamonds} paired the board on the river ending Garosshen's tournament in 27th place for $4,247.71.

"noz222" Can't Find Case Jack

Niveau 34 : 25,000/50,000, 6,250 ante

John "flukedogg10" Flukey raised to 120,000 from the hijack and Christopher "BasIle28" Basile three-bet to 375,000 from the cutoff. "noz222" then moved all in for 495,811 from the big blind, Flukey re-jammed over the top for 2,575,404, and Basile got out of the way.

"noz222": {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
John "flukedogg10" Flukey: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop gave both players a set, and that meant "noz222" needed to fine the case jack to stay alive. The {a-Hearts} turn wasn't what he was looking for and neither was the {a-Spades} river.

"noz222" was eliminated in 26th place for $4,247.71.
