Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Jason Koon has taken his seat in Amazon Orange and he's looking to add a deep run in the Main Event to an already red-hot 2021. The accomplished professional finally won his first WSOP gold bracelet in this year's $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em Heads-Up Championship and crossed $30 million in lifetime earnings after a big Summer on the high roller circuit.

Koon raised to 800 from the button and a player in the small blind three-bet to 1,800. Koon called and the flop was {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

Both players checked the flop and the turn was {q-Spades}. The player in the small blind fired 2,100 and Koon flat-called.

The river was {9-Spades} and both players checked. Koon turned over {a-Spades}{3-Spades} to take the pot while his opponent mucked {a-}{k-}.

Haim Gabay was spotted standing up and pulling out his phone to record before he tabled his hand and it was quickly apparent why as he tabled the {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} on a board of {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a flopped royal flush.

He did not get a ton of value from it as his opponent folded on the river but nevertheless, Gabay excitedly recorded the uber rare poker hand and collected his chips.

"What a normal table this is. Royal flushes, set over sets, slow rolls, pirates (in reference to Scotter Clark's attire)! It's amazing!" said tablemate Gabriel Andrade as Gabay took down the pot with a smile.

Defending Champion Salas Eliminated by Gould

Damian Salas

Earlier in the tournament, Damian Salas was involved in a hand against Lynne Ji at his table.

Salas opened and got two calls including Ji and Oliver Thomas. The flop was {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Salas continued and Thomas in the hijack raised. Ji three-bet and earned two calls.

The turn was the {j-Hearts} putting three hearts on the board. It checked to Thomas who bet just under half pot. Salas raised and Thomas shoved all in. Salas called with {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the nut flush against Thomas' {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

The river was the {j-Spades}, giving Oliver Thomas a full house and leaving Salas with crumbs.

A short while later, and just before the break, the action was picked up on the river with a board that read {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Salas was all in for just 2,000 from the big blind. There was side action between a player in early position and Peter Gould on the button.

There was about 16,000 in the pot by the river. The action was checked to Gould and he bet 9,400. The player in early position thought for a moment before releasing his hand.

With around 18,000 in the middle and the turn reading {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Eliran Yamin bet and was then somewhat surprised to see Almatbek Mykhanov move all-in. He clarified with the dealer that it was indeed a shove and then snap-called.

Eliran Yamin: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Almatbek Mykhanov: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

Yamin had locked up the double with nines full already and the {8-Diamonds} river was a formality. The double up was for 62,400 and Mykhanov still had more than the starting stack left after paying it off.

Koon Holding Court

Niveau 2 : 200/300, 300 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Jason Koon has been getting into the vibe on Day 1A, happily dishing out advice to his tablemates in the Amazon Orange section.

"This is the Main Event, so try to have fun. It gets much more serious later, but this is Day 1 so just try to enjoy it."

Koon had the opportunity to show them how it's done when a player in middle position raised to 800. Another player in the cutoff called and Koon three-bet to 3,500 from the button. The original raiser folded and the player in the cutoff came along.

The flop was {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Koon continued for 2,500. His opponent called and the turn was {2-Spades}.

Koon bet 8,000 on the turn and his opponent quickly folded. The newly minted WSOP champion dragged the pot with a smile and continued enjoying his Day 1 of the Main Event.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos bet 6,000 on the {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades} river and Jose Araya made the call.

Papadopoulos tabled {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for kings and tens, and that beat the {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} jacks and tens of Araya.

A few hands later Papadopoulos shoved on the turn {q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Julie Silberstein called with the shorter stack.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
Julie Silberstein: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
