Wong Makes the Right Call

Niveau 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Jerry Wong
Jerry Wong

On a flop of {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, after a couple of bets Jerry Wong had called a total of 16,000 from Stuart Rubin.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} and Rubin jammed for his remaining stack of 44,500. Wong went deep into the tank, apologizing to the table. After about two full minutes he slammed the chips in to make the call.

Stuart Rubin: {a-Spades}{2-Spades}
Jerry Wong: {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Rubin was caught with just ace-high and a gutshot straight draw and the {8-Clubs} on the river was no help. "Nice call, good luck," Rubin said as he left the table.

Yuri Dzivielevski bet out on a board showing {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and found a call from one opponent and an all-in raise from another. Dzivielevski did not take long to commit the rest of his stack as well, and the second opponent mucked his hand.

Dzivielevski tabled {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a straight, while his opponent turned over {6-Spades}{5-Clubs} for an inferior straight and was drawing dead. The river {2-Hearts} completed the runout, and Dzivielevski more than doubled his stack.

Clark Trucks It In

Niveau 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Scotter Clark
Scotter Clark

Scotter Clark was all-in for around 12,500 from the small blind, but there was a dispute about his betting action.

Clark had placed calling chips out with his left hand before bringing them back and putting them in a toy truck. After carefully placing the rest of his stack in the toy truck, he rolled it into the middle.

Action folded around to the button, who pointed out that Clark had placed chips out with his left hand to call. The floor manager was beckoned over to adjudicate the matter.

After reviewing the facts, the action was considered a call, and the decision was made that there would be no more bets allowed using toy trucks at the 2021 WSOP.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Clubs}. Clark immediately shoved and the player on the button snap-folded.

A player raised in early position to 1,500 and Jay Jesse called in the hijack before Rittie Chuaprasert called in the small blind and the big blind completed.

The dealer fanned a flop of {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} and after being checked to the early position raiser continued for 1,800. Both Jesse and Chuaprasert made the call.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Chuaprasert checked to the aggressor who continued for 1,000. Jesse made the call before Chuaprasert put in a check-raise to 12,000. The early position raiser jammed for 17,000 and both players called.

On the {9-Diamonds} river, Chuaprasert fired out 10,000 and Jesse quickly folded. Chuaprasert tabled {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, which busted his opponent when he showed {k-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Poker Hall of Famer Tom McEvoy posited a theory to table #454 in the Amazon Purple section.

"I think I have played in more Main Events than this entire table combined," the 1983 Main Event champion said.

McEvoy explained that he has played in 37 Main Events. One player polled the table to get an official answer.

One by one the players rattled off their Main Event tally.

10...8...6...1...2...8...2...7

The table seemed to come up with a consensus total of 44 Main Events among the other eight players.

More than McEvoy, but not by much.
