Cavanaugh Cracks Aces to Leave Kornuth Short

Niveau 22 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
James Cavanaugh
James Cavanaugh

Chance Kornuth raised the pot to 210,000 and James Cavanaugh called all-in for 205,000 while the rest of the table got out of the way.

James Cavanaugh: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Chance Kornuth: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-} flop gave Cavanaugh broadway and the {10-Hearts} turn also provided trips tens on top of that. Nothing changed with the {5-Hearts} river and Kornuth was left with fewer than three big blinds, as he will have to take his chances very shortly in order to get back into contention.

Chance Kornuth Eliminated in 14th Place ($83,960)

Niveau 22 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Jason Mercier opened to 180,000 from under the gun and Chance Kornuth stuck in his last 160,000 on his left. Scott Seiver also called from the big blind and the flop came {j-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

Seiver checked to Mercier who bet 400,000 and Seiver got out of the way.

Chance Kornuth: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Jason Mercier: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}

Kornuth flopped a Broadway wrap but Mercier limited those outs with a flush draw. It was the {3-Clubs} on the turn and the {6-Clubs} on the river that bricked out, sending Kornuth to the payout desk in 14th place.

Big Double Up for Lamb

Niveau 22 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante

Aaron Mermelstein raised it up from the hijack and Ben Lamb three-bet to 330,000 from the small blind. The action was back on Mermelstein who four-bet shoved all in and Lamb called off his stack of 1,205,000.

Ben Lamb: {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Aaron Mermelstein: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The flop fell {j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} to give Lamb a straight with a flush draw. The {2-Hearts} on the turn meant Mermelstein was drawing dead to the {j-Hearts} on the river, passing over a double-up to Lamb.

Duarte Baptista Eliminated in 13th Place ($91,832)

Niveau 22 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Duarte Baptista
Duarte Baptista

In a preflop contest, Duarte Baptista raised to 150,000 and then faced a three-bet to 540,000 by Robert Cowen. Baptista piled it in for what appeared to be 925,000 and Cowen instantly called.

Duarte Baptista: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Robert Cowen: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}

Cowen's double-suited ace-king had plenty of equity and improved right away on the {k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop. Baptista already bolted out of his chair and was ready to leave. There was no help on the {6-Clubs} turn and {4-Spades} river as his run ended in 13th place for $91,832.

James Cavanaugh
James Cavanaugh

From under the gun, table short stack James Cavanaugh raised and then got the last 375,000 or so in when facing a three-bet by Aaron Katz for the following showdown to emerge.

James Cavanaugh: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Aaron Katz: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

"I even have a pair!" Cavanaugh exclaimed with a grin on the face. He remained ahead on the {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop and {7-Hearts} turn but the {q-Diamonds} fell on the river to send Cavanaugh out in 12th place for $91,832.

Karakitukov Pulls Further Ahead

Niveau 22 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante

Robert Cowen was the initial preflop raiser for 130,000 and he picked up two callers in Aaron Mermelstein in the small blind and Veselin Karakitukov out of the big blind.

The trio checked the {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop and Karakitukov led the {3-Spades} turn for 175,000. Cowen raised it up to 435,000 and that forced out Mermelstein. It wasn't the end of the aggression on the turn, however, as Karakitukov then clicked it back to 1,200,000.

Cowen went into the tank for a while and used two time bank extensions before folding.

Katz Pots It on Jouhkimainen

Niveau 23 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Joni Jouhkimainen limped in from the small blind and Aaron Katz raised the pot to 180,000 in the big blind. Jouhkimainen re-potted to 540,000 and Katz just called.

The flop fell {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades} and Jouhkimainen started with a check. Katz eyed up his opponent's stack and announced a pot-sized bet of 1,140,000. It was for nearly all of Jouhkimainen's chips but he elected to lay his hand down.

Bleznick Doubles Through Katz

Niveau 23 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Jared Bleznick
Jared Bleznick

Jared Bleznick limped in from the hijack and Joni Jouhkimainen raised the pot to 360,000 in the cutoff. Aaron Katz flat-called on the button and Bleznick then limp-shoved. They quickly determined the pot size and Bleznick was indeed all-in for 1,600,000 which forced out Jouhkimainen.

Katz mulled it over for just half a minute and made the call with the superior stack.

jared Bleznick: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Aaron Katz: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Katz nodded, knowing he'd run into pocket aces as the Katz was already out of the bag considering how the action had unfolded. The {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop brought no significant extra equity for Katz and the same applied for the {4-Clubs} turn and {6-Spades} river.

"Did you have the winner?" Jouhkimainen was asked and he nodded.

Michael Heritsch Eliminated in 11th Place ($104,950)

Michael Heritsch
Michael Heritsch

Michael Heritsch raised to 280,000 from under the gun and Robert Cowen called from the small blind. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Cowen led out with a bet. Heritsch jammed all in for around 800,000 which Cowen quickly called.

Michael Heritsch: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Robert Cowen: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The {j-Hearts} on the turn gave Cowen a straight but Heritsch was still live to a flush. It was the {10-Hearts} on the river that gave Cowen the win and Heritsch was eliminated in 11th place.
