It Works 'Till It Doesn't

Niveau 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Susan Scannell moved all in from under the gun with 16,900. After doing so, she put her card protector in her purse, stood up, pushed in her chair, and stood behind it while she watched the rest of the action.

Others at the table indicated she had done this every time that she had gone all in, which was about six times per one player's approximation. "It works till it doesn't," she told the table matter of factly.

Action folded around to the small blind, who made the call with Scannell covered. Once the big blind got out of the way, it was time to showdown.

Susan Scannell: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Scannell was ahead, but her opponent had plenty of outs. Then, right on cue, the flop came {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, giving Scannell a full house, leaving her opponent drawing dead to running kings or running aces for a better full house. The board completed {9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, securing the pot for Scannell and doubling her stack.

"I told y'all do not mess with her when she stands up," another player exclaimed. Scannell calmly sat back down, pulled her card protector back out of her purse, and raked in the pot.

Monaldi Doubles Up

Niveau 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

With around 10,000 in the pot in three-way action on a {7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop, the under-the-gun player bet 5,000. A player in late position min-raised to 10,000. Greg Monaldi, in the small blind, moved all in for his last 34,500 chips.

The original raiser tanked for nearly two minutes before slamming his cards into the muck. The late position player called.

Greg Monaldi: {7-Spades}{4-Spades}
Late Position: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Monaldi's two pair was ahead of the late position's pocket jacks. The turn brought the {6-Spades}, much to the dismay of the early position player, who claimed to have a pair of fives.

The river brought the {k-Diamonds}, giving Monaldi the win and more than doubling his stack.

Hammers' Shove Takes it Down

Niveau 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

After a raise to 4,000 from early position and a call from middle position, Sherry Hammers reraised to 13,000. She got a call from early position before the middle position player folded.

On the {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop, Hammers continued for 7,500 and got a call.

On the {2-Clubs} turn, Hammers moved all in. After a moment or two, her opponent made the fold.

Before tossing her hand in the muck and collecting her winnings, Hammers showed her opponent that he made a good laydown, as she turned over {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for top set.

Brenes Enjoying Solid Performance

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner and Costa Rica's biggest all-time earner Humberto Brenes has caused quite a stir on Thursday night.

His trademark personality has been on full display all night and his table have enjoyed his antics, despite him collecting their chips.

In his last hand, a player in late position opened to 7,000 and Brenes three-bet to 21,000. His opponent scoffed and said "I'll get you next time."

In response, Brenes flipped over the {a-Clubs} and yelled "Ohhhhhhh?" as he made a shark-like motion with the card towards his opponent before flipping over the {q-Spades} and giving the table a wink.

His opponent claims to have folded {a-}{j-} as he sent 7,000 chips to "The Shark", who is thoroughly enjoying a successful Day 1b.

Player one: {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
John Dreux: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Gustavo Perdomo: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The dealer proposed a {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{j-Hearts}{k-Clubs} board, giving a straight for John Dreux and Gustavo Perdomo could not realize the double knockout, but he still got a big stack for that end of the day.

Taheri Turns a Full House

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Action was picked up on the flop with 29,000 in the middle and a flop of {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} on the board. Payman Taheri moved all in from the small blind with 71,500. The early position player called, as did the button, who was the small stack.

Button: {5-Diamonds}{5-}
Payman Taheri: {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Early Position: {a-Clubs}{k-}

Taheri was out in front with his trip nines, and he further improved when the {10-Diamonds} turn gave him a full house. The {3-Spades} river changed nothing, locking up the pot for Taheri. In doing so, he eliminated the button while doubling up through the early position player, giving him one of the largest stacks in the room as the end of the day draws near.

No More Chances for Natal

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Preflop, and after a raise from Lenn Branscam in early position, it was Kenneth Natal who moved all in for around 20,000. Branscam snap-called and both players turned their cards.

Kenneth Natal: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Lenn Branscam: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Natal was at risk and not that favorite, and after a {9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{j-Diamonds} he was eliminated by Lenn Branscam. After day 1a, Natal also failed during this day 1b, in his attempt to qualify for day 2.
