After a few seconds of thought, he called.

Salem Dishing Out Bad Luck

Niveau 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

The PokerNews team was called over to a table to hear about a wild turn of events.

A few hands prior, Lee Salem sat down for his first hand and knocked out Steven Pavlick, who suffered a string of bad beats in a short period of time.

Salem had {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} on a board of {k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Spades} for quads, while Pavlick lost it all with {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} when his last 6,200 went in after the flop.

Prior to that, Pavlick had flopped a full house, only to lose to quad deuces. A short time later he lost again on a runner-runner. According to the table, the quad eights were the final blow in a tough run of bad luck that only took about 30 minutes.

Joker card on the flop?
Joker card on the flop?

The 2022 PokerNews Cup at Golden Nugget has been a rousing success, easily surpassing the $1 million guarantee, and there's one hand that will probably be talked about for quite some time.

During Monday's Day 2 session in the $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament, an odd flop appeared at one of the tables on the very first hand. The flop came out {2-Hearts}, {9-Hearts}, and Joker. Yes, a Joker was somehow left in the deck, and one player seated at another table captured the hand on video, which was then posted on the PokerNews YouTube channel.

Nielson Fights Back With a Double

Niveau 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Allen Nielson
Allen Nielson

Action was heads up with 1,000 and {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades} in the middle when the big blind checked to Allen Nielson on the button with the short stack. Nielson shoved his last 2,800 and the big blind called.

His opponent turned over {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a pair of tens, but Nielson had {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} to take the lead with the better kicker.

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and Nielson held on to secure the double with a pair of tens.

Nielson ran to 145th place to cash in this year's Seniors Event, and he's building on a 2021 WSOP where he finished 48th in the Super Seniors and had a deep run to 534th in the Main Event.

Neil Blumenfield
Neil Blumenfield

Neil Blumenfield was spotted in the field with his usual brimmed hat, scarf, and a jean jacket. He finished third in the 2015 Main Event for $3,398,298.

Blumenfield called a bet of 500 on the {j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop to see the {2-Spades} turn. His opponent continued for 500 more and Blumenfield called to see the {a-Hearts} river.

His opponent led for 500 once more and Blumenfield called. He was shown the bad news though as they tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for a rivered Broadway straight, and Blumenfield flashed the {a-Clubs} as he mucked.
