Zhang Continues to Steal the Spotlight

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Zilong Zhang
Zilong Zhang

Clayton Mozdzen opened to 100,000 from middle position with {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and was called by William Nunley with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} on the button. In the blinds, Zilong Zhang had {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} while George Turner held {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, both players called.

Zhang led out for 440,000 on the {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop in what commentator Nick Schulman said was an "unconventional play." The field quickly folded and Zhang exposed his hand.

"I told you, king high has no showdown value there," he said. A few of the table then called him crazy.

The following hand, Robert Welch opened to 110,000 with {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} before Nunley raised to 333,000 with {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. Zhang, with {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, flat-called on the button before Welch folded.

The {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} gave Zhang outs to the straight and he bet 285,000 when checked to. Nunley made top pair on the {a-Clubs} turn and action checked through to the {7-Clubs} river. Nunley bet 850,000 and Zhang quickly folded.

Schindler Bluffs Away His Main Event

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Jake Schindler
Jake Schindler

With roughly 600,000 in the pot on a {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Hearts} completed board, Jake Schindler had 150,000 over the betting line in early position, and Fabian Schaefer Carreno raised to 675,000 in middle position. Schindler thought for a while before deciding to move all in for his 1,760,000 chips.

"I knew you were gonna do that," Carreno reacted. "Then I didn't think so cause you took so long."

Carreno continued to talk quietly as Schindler sat in silence directly to his right. Ultimately, Carreno put in the chips to signify a call. Schindler slammed down {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} onto the felt, and his bluff attempt with the ace of diamonds was no good, as Carreno's {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} claimed the pot with a straight.

Schindler, who won his first bracelet earlier this year and is also widely known in the poker world for having cheating allegations against him, was left standing with no chips as he joylessly awaited a payout slip before he made his way to the payout desk on Day 5 of the Main Event.

Koray Aldemir's impressive run the 2022 Main Event continued on the secondary feature table. He called Matthew Ezrol's 1,175,000 jam with this {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Ezrol's {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} were ahead on the {8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop but Aldemir would make trips on the {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} runout to send out the middle school math teacher.

Lococo Goes Lococo!!

Niveau 25 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Alejandro Lococo
Alejandro Lococo

Alejandro Lococo raised it up from the hijack and Karim Rebei defended from the big blind. The flop came {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and both players checked to the {k-Spades} on the turn.

Rebei led out with a bet of 140,000 and Lococo raised to 485,000. Rebei responded with a three-bet to 1,135,000 and this is where things got interesting. Lococo announced a raise but put in the wrong amount, therefore was committed to a min-raise of 1,785,000.

Rebei took the opportunity to push out a five-bet to 4,000,000 which put Lococo into the tank for at least six minutes. After looking visibly distressed, Lococo eventually announced all-in for 5,710,000.

"Oops," Rebei said to the rail as he shrugged his shoulders. He still asked for a count and gave it some thought for a couple of minutes and even got the chips ready to call. However, Rebei opted to lay his hand down and Lococo flashed the {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} as he started clapping and shouting "Let's go!" as he dragged in a massive pot.

Snippets of the hand, played on the outer feature table without hole cards, can be seen below (courtesy of PokerGO).

Zhang Outflops Kings

Niveau 25 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Zilong Zhang
Zilong Zhang

Michael Pickett made it 120,000 with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} from middle position and Zilong Zhang called with {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} from the cutoff.

The {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop gave Zhang trips and Trickett checked it over to the Las Vegas resident. Zhang bet 85,000 and was called.

The {2-Clubs} turn prompted another check from Trickett and Zhang fired for 265,000. Again Trickett called.

With 1,090,000 in the middle, the {a-Clubs} hit the river, double pairing the board. Trickett made it a trio of checks while Zhang bet for a third time. He sent in another 1,120,000 into the pot to put Trickett in an awkward situation. Tricket ended up calling and saw that Zhang had rivered a full house.

Dan Smith jammed for 620,000 with {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} from middle position and was looked up by Zilong Zhang with {8-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Zhang flopped best as the dealer fanned the {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Spades}. Smith sailed into the lead on the {q-Clubs} turn and found the double up on the {6-Hearts} river.

Niveau 25 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Brian Rast
Brian Rast

Brian Rast opened to 120,000 and Jon Gisler called in the hijack.

Rast continued for 130,000 on the {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop and Gisler called. The turn was the {j-Hearts} and Rast sized up for 625,000. Gisler then shoved all in, covering Rast.

Rast had 1,675,000 and muttered to himself while counting out his stack before eventually calling.

Brian Rast: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Jon Gisler: {j-Spades}{10-Spades}

Rast held top pair but had been undone by the two pair of Gisler. The river {7-Hearts} bricked and the five-time WSOP bracelet-winner was sent to the rail.

Zhang Doubles Up Smith

Dan Smith
Dan Smith

Zilong Zhang, with {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, opened to 120,000 and was called by Dan Smith in the big blind with {a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

Smith check-called bets of 85,000 and 225,000 to have the board show the {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

Smith checked again and Zhang went into the tank. He eventually settled on a jam to put the action on his opponent.

Smith asked Zhang what he thought he held and while Zhang was trying to conjure up a response, he called to scoop the pot.
