Zhang Continues to Steal the Spotlight

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Zilong Zhang
Zilong Zhang

Clayton Mozdzen opened to 100,000 from middle position with {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and was called by William Nunley with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} on the button. In the blinds, Zilong Zhang had {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} while George Turner held {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, both players called.

Zhang led out for 440,000 on the {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop in what commentator Nick Schulman said was an "unconventional play." The field quickly folded and Zhang exposed his hand.

"I told you, king high has no showdown value there," he said. A few of the table then called him crazy.

The following hand, Robert Welch opened to 110,000 with {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} before Nunley raised to 333,000 with {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. Zhang, with {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, flat-called on the button before Welch folded.

The {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} gave Zhang outs to the straight and he bet 285,000 when checked to. Nunley made top pair on the {a-Clubs} turn and action checked through to the {7-Clubs} river. Nunley bet 850,000 and Zhang quickly folded.

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Jack Allen
Jack Allen

Jack Allen found two consecutive doubles up on the feature table. In the first hand he had {9-Spades}{7-Spades} and went on the river a flush against Andrew Barflied's {5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

The following hand he was all in for 395,000 with {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} and at risk to William Nunley's {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Allen paired up on the {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop and found himself with a workable stack after the {2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} runout.

Jorstad Runs Into Aces

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Espen Jorstad opened to 100,000 in early position and Tyler Hirschfeld three-bet to 300,000 from a couple of seats over. The action folded back to Jorstad who thought for a moment before announcing all in. Hirschfeld instantly called off his stack of 1,805,000 and the cards were on their backs.

Tyler Hirschfeld: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Espen Jorstad: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades} provided no immediate help to the Norwegian. However, the {9-Hearts} gave him a straight and some chop outs. It was the {k-Diamonds} on the river that bricked out and Hirschfeld held on for a double up.

Mcgrotty Doubles Up

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

A player in late position opened to 100,000 and was called by Austin Apicella out of the small blind as well as William Mcgrotty in the big blind.

Both blinds checked on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and the late position player continued for 150,000. Apicella folded while Mcgrotty made the call to send the two remaining players heads-up to the turn.

Mcgrotty checked for a second time on the {8-Diamonds} turn and the late position player, unwilling to slow down, pushed 395,000 into the middle. After some time Mcgrotty announced all in and his opponent wasted little time in making the call.

William Mcgrotty: {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Late Position Player: {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Though at risk, Mcgrotty was way ahead and would only need to dodge jacks and tens heading to the river to score the full double. He was able to do so after the {7-Diamonds} rolled off on the river, sending his stack north of 2,000,000.

Schindler Bluffs Away His Main Event

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Jake Schindler
Jake Schindler

With roughly 600,000 in the pot on a {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Hearts} completed board, Jake Schindler had 150,000 over the betting line in early position, and Fabian Schaefer Carreno raised to 675,000 in middle position. Schindler thought for a while before deciding to move all in for his 1,760,000 chips.

"I knew you were gonna do that," Carreno reacted. "Then I didn't think so cause you took so long."

Carreno continued to talk quietly as Schindler sat in silence directly to his right. Ultimately, Carreno put in the chips to signify a call. Schindler slammed down {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} onto the felt, and his bluff attempt with the ace of diamonds was no good, as Carreno's {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} claimed the pot with a straight.

Schindler, who won his first bracelet earlier this year and is also widely known in the poker world for having cheating allegations against him, was left standing with no chips as he joylessly awaited a payout slip before he made his way to the payout desk on Day 5 of the Main Event.

Ramsey Doubles Through Zhang

Niveau 24 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Nicholas Ramsey was in the big blind with {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and up against Zilong Zhang's {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. The flop was already dealt and it showed the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}.

Ramsey bet 250,000 and then called off his stack when Zhang jammed for 1,160,000 effective. The {6-Diamonds} turn doubled Zhang's outs but the {q-Clubs} kept the Brit in play.
