Phil Galfond Offers Poker Hall of Fame Pick; Says Two Should Be Inducted Per Year

Niveau 27

Phil Galfond has yet to make an appearance at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and as he told PokerNews, right now he has no plans to play live.

“But who knows, plans change,” added Galfond, who has been playing online at WSOP.com.

While Galfond hasn’t been at the WSOP – well, at least Phil as his wife, Farah Galfond, has been competing – the three-time bracelet winner is still weighing in by his relatively new newsletter “PG’s Takes of the Week.”

One of the topics the online poker legend, who prior to the WSOP inserted himself in some drama involving Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel with a pointed letter, was that of the Poker Hall of Fame. Right now, the public is being solicited for nomination.

“The nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame are now open, presenting voters with a familiar dilemma: there are simply too many great options to choose from,” Galfond wrote before giving his picks.

Rupesh Pattni Eliminated in 16th Place ($$10,074)

Niveau 27
Rupesh Pattni
Rupesh Pattni

Limit Hold 'em

Carl Buckland raised under the gun and got calls from Rupesh Pattni in the small blind and Denis Bilodeau in the big blind.

The flop came 285, and after Pattni checked, Bilodeau bet, Buckland folded and Pattni called.

Now heads up to the Q turn, Pattni checked again and faced another bet from Bilodeau. Again Pattni called, getting short.

The river was the K and after a final check, Bilodeau fired once more, which Pattni did not like. A call and loss would leave him with just 66,000 chips.

After over two minutes of deliberation, he tossed in a call to see that Bilodeau had him with K10 for a flopped flush.

Pattni showed AQ for a pair of queens and a missed nut flush draw.

On the next hand, Pattni got his last 66,000 in from the button and got a "donation" call from Buckland to put him at risk.

Rupesh Pattni: K10
Carl Buckland: 83

The board ran out J753A with Buckland making a winning pair of threes on the turn to finish off Pattni.

Robert Ricciuti was all in for his remaining chips from the big blind and up against David "Bakes" Baker.

Robert Ricciuti: AK
David "Bakes" Baker: AJ

Ricciuti had Baker dominated as the K310 flop gave him top pair. The turn, though, came the Q and Baker made a Broadway straight.

"Oh, f**k off," Ricciuti cried out as he shot out of his seat. The river came the 3 and he stopped to take a picture of the board before heading for the rail.
