Scotty Nguyen Recovering From Surgery, Will Miss First Half of WSOP

Five-time bracelet winner and 1998 Main Event Champion Scotty Nguyen will miss the first half of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as the Vietnamese-American poker icon recovers from surgery.
Nguyen, always a fan-favorite of WSOP, took to Twitter earlier this week to announce he was undergoing surgery for slipping rib syndrome, a condition that can cause severe chest pain in addition to "a slipping, clicking, or popping sensation in the lower chest," according to an article published in Psychopharmacology Bulletin.
But it's not all over, baby. Nguyen tweeted today to let his fans know that the surgery was a success and that he hopes to recover in time for the second half of the WSOP.

“I want to let you guys know the surgery (recovery) is going so well," Nguyen said in a video. "Right now, on both sides (it) is sore and swollen and I have trouble to get in and out of bed. But I have my wife, Julie, she (is) right there to help me sitting up or standing up.”
“I love all of you, baby. See you in the second half at the World Series in Vegas.”

Ryynanen stood pat and Rodrigues drew two on the first draw. Rodrigues then called a bet from Ryynanen.
Ryynanen remained pat on the second draw and Rodrigues drew one. Ryynanen bet again and Rodrigues called.
The same drawing action occurred in the final round and Ryynanen went all in for his remaining chips. Rodrigues reluctantly called and Ryynanen showed 7x6x4x3x2x. Rodrigues mucked and Ryynanen doubled up.

Glaser bet after the draw but got raised by Johansson. Glaser called and drew one, while Johansson, who seemingly can't miss lately, went from drawing three to standing pat.
Glaser then check-called a bet from Johansson and needed one again on the final draw while Johansson remained pat.
Johansson then bet again after Glaser checked, with Glaser unable to call to send more chips to the scorching Swede.

After that final draw, Glaser checked and Johnasson now bet. Glaser didn't appear pleased, but after a couple of minutes of thought, he tossed in a call to see that Johansson had made 8x6x4x3x2x. Glaser mucked his hand and sent another pot across the table to Johansson.
