Stacked Field Returns for Day 2 of Event #69: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship

Michael Moncek
Michael Moncek

Day 2 of Event #69: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas sees 54 players return from a total of 126 Day 1 entries. That number will likely change, however, as late registration remains open until the start of the day.

A stacked field turned out for the high buy-in version of what many believe to be the purest form of poker. While Michael Moncek was able to bag the biggest with 452,000, his advantage heading into the day can only be considered slight given the level of competition he will be up against. For example, all five top place finishers in the $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw remain in contention with 4th place Jon Turner bagging an impressive 270,000, good for third in the chip counts.

Other top pros returning for Day 2 include defending champion Pedro Bromfman (240,000), four time bracelet winner and Poker Hall of Fame nominee Mike Matusow (216,000) and the expert on the triple draw version of this game, Daniel Negreanu (201,000).

Day 2 restarts at 1 p.m. in the Paris Purple section with blinds resuming at 1,500/3,000 with a 4,500 ante. Levels will be 90-minutes in length for the remainder of the tournament and the plan heading into the day is to whittle the field down to five players.

Wong Doubles Through Yu

Niveau 11 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 4,500 ante

Daniel Negreanu opened to 11,000 from under the gun and was called by Ben Yu in middle position. Jerry Wong then moved all in for around 60,000 in the cutoff, getting a fold from Negreanu but a call from Yu.

Yu stood pat, prompting Wong to take one after which Yu tabled 9x8x7x3x2x. Wong, meanwhile, held 9x7x4x2x and would need to hit a three, five or six to survive and was able to do just that after peeling the 3x to score an early double.

Holley Felted by Negreanu

Niveau 11 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 4,500 ante

John Holley moved all in from under the gun and was looked up by Daniel Negreanu in the big blind.

Negreanu stood pat while Holley took one holding 9x8x5x2x. He was drawing dead, however, as Negreanu had picked up 8x7x6x5x2x to send Holley to the rail on one of the first hands of the day.
