Sigua Survives by Cracking Aces

Niveau 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

An under-the-gun player raised to 15,000 and the player in the cutoff called. Rellie Sigua, on the button, paused before putting in a three-bet to 52,000.

The blinds got out of the way and the player under the gun jammed. The cutoff folded and Sigua, who didn't appear to love the spot anymore, reluctantly made the call to put himself at risk.

Rellie Sigua: AQ
Under the Gun: AA

Once the cards were face up, Sigua saw the bad news. But that all changed when the flop came Q6Q.

The under-the-gun player was suddenly way behind with only one out to send Sigua home, but the 4 turn and 3 river offered no help and locked up the hand for Sigua, securing him a full double.

Meir Hits the Flop Hard, "Cuz" Celebrates

Niveau 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

The under-the-gun player raised to 16,000. Jessica Meir called from the small blind. The big blind called, too, to see a 8Q10 flop.

Action checked to the original aggressor, who continued with a bet of 30,000. Meir called and the big blind got out of the way before the 9 came out on the turn.

Meir checked again and this time the under-the-gun player tossed out a bet of 35,000. Meir responded by check-jamming for 107,000 and her opponent didn't wait long before tossing in the call to put Meir at risk with one card to come.

Jessica Meir: K9
Under The Gun: AQ

Meir had flopped the second nut flush with a gutshot straight flush draw. But her opponent still had the nut-flush draw. When the river came the J, she had faded the threat and secured a full double-up.

Elsewhere in the room as this hand played out, Steve Buckner shot to his feet after tripling up when a Jx on the river gave him the best hand.

He motioned for the room to celebrate with him and suddenly, hundreds of people were cheering and clapping for the man known as "Cuz." It was one of many exuberant and amusing moments so far at the 2023 World Series of Poker.
