Level nine is underway and the tournament clock shows a total of 721 entries so far, which is just ten entries shy of the attendance one year ago. However, the late registration remains open and it is expected that many hopefuls will take advantage of the extended late registration for Day 2.
The field has already been cut in half as only around 360 players remain.
In a three-bet pot to the A♦K♣8♣ flop with around 50,000 in the middle, Aleksejs Ponakovs checked. Rehman Kassam jammed for just 16,000 and Ponakovs reluctantly called.
Rehman Kassam: A♦K♦K♥10♣
Aleksejs Ponakovs: 6♣6♦5♦5♣
"Oh, I am not dead," Ponakovs exclaimed and then instantly added "okay dead" when Kassam further improved with the A♠ turn to make the J♦ river a formality.
Alex Foxen opened to 5,000 in early position and found a call from Kyle Knecht in the big blind.
The 7♠K♣10♦ flop saw both players check through to the K♥ turn, where Foxen led out for 7,500. Knecht made the call and the 8♣ river was revealed.
Another pair of checks led to Knecht showing down Q♣Q♦9♥3♦ for two pair, taking down the pot as Foxen folded.
