Faraz Jaka's Main Event Tips! #3: Focus on Yourself

Niveau 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

To mark the WSOP Main Event, Faraz Jaka has given us some top tips for those playing in the most prestigious event in poker. You can always find more help and advice, as well as free poker resources and training videos on Jaka Coaching.

Top Tip #3: Think About You

Find out more about Jaka Coaching

"My third and final tip for the WSOP Main Event is don't do what everyone else is doing. The majority of people who play poker are losing players. So don't worry about what everyone else is doing and what they're saying. Because if you're doing what the masses are doing, you're probably not winning.

Jaka says that a common mistake players make during the Main Event is trying to see too many flops.

"People will want to see cheap flops, so there will be a raise and a bunch of calls. You don't want to join their party. You want to fold and play tighter when it's going multiway.

"Or you want a three-bet squeeze and thin the field and get it heads up."

Set Over Set Sees Talbot Double Through Martini

Niveau 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Parker Talbot
Parker Talbot

The player under the gun raised to 1,000 and was called by Parker Talbot in middle position, Julien Martini in the cutoff, and the player in the big blind for a four-way pot.

Action checked to the initial raiser, who bet 1,100 on the 10J2 flop. Talbot called and Martini raised to 6,500. The big blind and initial bettor folded, but Talbot called.

Talbot check-called a 14,000 bet from Martini on the 5 turn and then check-called all in on the 7 river after Martini shoved.

Martini held 22 for a set of deuces, but they were no good against Talbot's 1010 for a set of tens for the double up.

Govea Sends Julius to the Rail With a Massive Cooler

Niveau 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Adrian Govea
Adrian Govea

Around 40,000 was already in the pot as Adrian Govea and Kyle Julius went heads-up to the turn on a board of Q2107.

Govea, in the cutoff, then put in 50,000 and Julius snap-called for around 35,000, turning over QQ for top set.

Govea, though, had K9 for a flush and Julius needed the board to pair on the river to stay alive. The dealer instead flipped over the 3 and the massive pot was pushed to Govea, while Julius was forced to wait until next year.

Campero Finds the Right Call at Last Possible Second

Niveau 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

With two players seeing a board of Q610 Andres Campero checked in the big blind and called a 2,500 bet from James Dempsey in the hijack.

Both players then checked the 7 turn leading to the 6 river. Campero checked and Dempsey bet 5,500, sending Campero into the tank.

After about two minutes a player at the table called the clock. Campero waited until he had one second left before flicking in the call.

Dempsey could only show K10 for a missed straight draw turned into a bluff while Campero tabled 88 for just a pair of eights to take the pot.
