Day 1a of APPT Cebu in the Bag with Goh Leading

Niveau 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
Day 1a chipleader, Han Ruo Goh
Day 1a chipleader, Han Ruo Goh

What started as 51 players has been almost chopped in half here at the 2012 APPT Cebu Main Event as only 27 players managed to survive through to Day 2.

When the day began, play was slated to last seven 60-minute levels. That all changed late into the sixth level when the players were suddenly told that it would all be over in just 15 minutes. The players didn’t mind though as they could now enjoy the rest of the night lazing by the pool drinking cocktails.

Plenty of familiar faces piled into the Waterfront Hotel and Casino at midday and by the end of the day most of them had survived. The likes of Michael Marvanek, Jesse McKenzie, Octavian Voegele, Michael Kanaan, Daniel Laidlaw, Stewart Ballard and Mishel Anunu will all be hitting the tables on Day 2.

Also managing to make it through the day and one player who will be looking to post a big result here in Asia was Team PokerStars Pro Raymond Wu.

Some of the players who started the day but won’t be returning on Day 2 include Victor Chong, Haifeng Xue, Claudia Yum, Paul Hockin and 2011 ANZPT Perth Champion Grant Levy.

By the time all the chips had been bagged up, it was Han Ruo Goh at the top of the counts with a handy stack of 84,300. Not far behind and in great shape was Jacky Wang on 77,900.

That’s all from us here on Day 1a of APPT Cebu. Be sure to join us tomorrow at 12:10 p.m. local time as we continue to bring all the action, live from the Philippines.

Stop That Clock

Niveau 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

The clock has been stopped and it has been announced that just two more hands will be dealt. At this point it is looking like Han Ruo Goh will be the chip leader, while Jacky Wang is not far behind. Stay tuned for end-of-day chip counts and a wrap of all the action.

Change of Plan

Niveau 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

It has just been announced by APPT President Danny McDonaugh that the play will now stop at the end of this current level in around 10-minutes time.

That means that the Day 1 flights will now all be just 6 levels long and will give players plenty of time to explore the many wonders Cebu has to offer.

Anunu Crushing Late

Mishel Anunu has been crushing in the later half of the night and we managed to catch a recent hand that added to his stack.

By the time we got to the table there was a board showing {j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Anunu was leading into one opponent with a 6,000-chip bet. The player opted to call and then mucked his hand when Anunu turned over {3-}{3-} for a turned set.

Wang Chopping Laidlaw

Niveau 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Daniel Laidlaw was just looking he would be heading home when he got his short stack all in preflop holding {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against the {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} of Jacky Wang. It was a shove in the cutoff and a call from the small blind from Wang that would see the two watch some cards be dealt on the felt.

The {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop gave Laidlaw some more outs and when the {10-Spades} hit the turn, Laidlaw would have the straight he needed to survive. Somewhat unfortunately for Laidlaw though, the {9-Hearts} on the river would see the pot chopped.

Ruo Running Good

"Man, you run so good," were the words that came out of one player's mouth as he witnessed Han Ruo Goh deal the fatal blow to another player.

We came to the table with a flop showing {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Goh's one opponent getting all their chips in the middle. Goh had enough chips by a mile and would end up taking down the pot holding {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} when the turn hit with a {5-Clubs} and the river with an {8-Clubs}.

With that hand, Goh is now the chip leader.
