Diamonds Aren’t Always a Girl’s Best Friend

Claudia Yum is a recent casualty from the APPT Cebu Main Event as the players slowly start to drop away. It was recalled to us that Yum committed her last chips with {A-Diamonds}{J-} on a jack-high, three-diamond flop. With top pair and the nut flush draw, it was a pretty strong holding, but unfortunately her opponent had already flopped a flush.

Yum couldn’t find another diamond to save herself and was sent to an early exit.

Updated Chip Counts

Occy Doing Just Fine

We recently watched Octavian Voegele lose a couple of thousand chips when he floated a {10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop in a raised pot and then folded to a bet on the {7-Clubs} turn.

Just a few moments after we left Voegele's table and he would again be involved in a hand, except this time the pot would be sent his way.

By the time we got the table a board was showing {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and one player had checked to Voegele. There was more than 5,000 already in the pot and Voegele decided to bet 3,500. This amount got his opponent thinking, but would eventually fold and send this nice little pot to Veogele.

Voegele, who took down the ANZPT Adelaide event last year, and will be looking for more success here in Cebu.

Gill Represents the USA

Following the events of “Black Friday” last year, a lot of Americans were forced to relocate in order to continue playing online poker. That concept suited American Carter Gill to a tee as he was more than happy to float around Asia and enjoy, shall we say, the “perks” of the relatively cheap Asian lifestyle.

It also means that Gill is one of the few Americans in today’s field and we just caught him rake in a nice pot to increase his stack. We arrived on the river with the board reading {3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and a 4,300-chip bet in front of the player in the small blind.

After a few moments of posturing, Gill flicked out two yellow chips to signal a raise to 10,000. The small blind thought briefly before conceding the pot.

“I turned a set,” chirped Gill as he flashed {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to move up to 36,000.

Back To It

Niveau 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

The players are back in their seats and ready for more here at the APPT Cebu Main Event. It's ante time, so expect the action to pick up as we continue into the afternoon.

Niveau: 3

Blinds: 100/200

Ante: 25

Xue's a No-Show

Niveau 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

The action was already at the turn on Aaron Benton's table. With the board showing {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}, Benton's lone opponent, Haifeng Xue, moved in for a single blue (1,000) chips and a whole stack of green (25) chips. It counted down at 1,675 total. Benton tanked for a minute, but folded.

"Show me a king," he pleaded with Xue. "Show me a king!"

Xue shrugged but did not reveal his cards.

Ballard Loses One

Readers may recognize the name Stewart Ballard from his 4th place finish at ANZPT Sydney. He'll be looking for a similiar result here in Cebu, but if early indications are correct, it won't be that easy.

We came to Ballard's table with a board showing {5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Ballard in the hand against one opponent. At this point there was almost 5,000 in the pot and Ballard opted to check. His opponent flicked out a bet of 3,000 and it was back on Ballard. After studying his opponent, Ballard decided to make the call.

When Ballard's opponent turned over {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a rivered straight, Ballard would shake his head and let out a deep sigh as he slowly slid his cards towards the dealer.

Metaxiotis Makes a Believer Out of Wiesler

Niveau 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Claudia Yum, well known in Asian poker circles, opened the action pre-flop from under the gun with a raise to 500. She was called by the next player to act, Bjorn Wiesler. Action passed to Antonio Metaxiotis, who bumped the price of poker to 1,700. Both original players called.

The three-way flop of {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} checked to Metaxiotis. He bet just more than half the pot, 3,025. Yum quickly folded by Wiesler stuck around for another card, the turn {k-Clubs}. Wiesler checked again, and this time a bet of 6,000 chased Wiesler out of the hand for good.
