A$25,000 Challenge
A$25,000 Challenge

A new champion will be crowned at the 2020 Aussie Millions and 33 players out of a record-breaking field of 169 entries in the A$25,000 Challenge remain in contention for the first seven-figure top prize of the series at the Crown Casino complex in Melbourne.

Only the top 17 spots will take home a portion of the A$4,056,000 prize pool and the min-cash is worth A$70,980, reaching the seven-handed final table will ensure a payday of A$131,820. The eventual champion can look forward to a payday of A$1,074,840 and the ANTON Jewellery Championship ring.

Heading into the final day as the chip leader is Steve O'Dwyer with 560,000, followed by Chino Rheem with 486,000 and George Wolff is right on his heels with 478,000. Other notables with above-average stacks include 2018 WSOP Europe Main Event champion Jack Sinclair (415,500), Sam Greenwood (395,000), Dietrich Fast (354,500), Chin Wei Lim (324,000), Koray Aldemir (318,500), and Kenny Hallaert (259,000).

In a field filled with High Rollers from all over the world, quite a few of them have visited the Aussie Millions for the first time and that's a promising sign for the other High Roller events that follow. But first up, a new champion will be crowned today and a long day at the tables is ahead until then.

Yaroshevskyy Eliminated by Wolff

Niveau 13 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Igor Yaroshevskyy
Igor Yaroshevskyy

The latest player to jump above half a million in chips is George Wolff, who sent Igor Yaroshevskyy to the rail.

Yaroshevskyy got his last 130,000 in with the {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Wolff had that dominated with the {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

There was no help for Yarosvehskyy on a {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} board and that reduced the field to the final 30 hopefuls, who are spread around five six-max tables.

Yokosawa Surges into Lead

Niveau 14 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Masato Yokosawa
Masato Yokosawa

Justin Liberto was under the gun and contemplating whether to call off his stack against Masato Yokosawa, who had shoved from his left for a pot-sized bet of 220,000 effective.

The board read {a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Liberto cracked his knuckles and shrugged. After about another minute, he dropped in a stack of chips, but he couldn't beat {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} for a straight. The dealer flashed what looked to be {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} as Liberto gathered to exit.

Huang Busts Krost

Tyron Krost open-jammed for the last 100,000 and he was called by Vincent Huang in the big blind.

Tyron Krost: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Vincent Huang: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop was bad news for Krost but he picked up some outs with the {9-Diamonds} turn.

"Don't stand up mate," Huang joked. A blank {a-Spades} fell on the river and that spelled the end for Krost in 20th place.

Chin Wei Lim Bubbles the A$25,000 Challenge

Chin Wei Lim jammed the button for 90,000 and was called by Jack Sinclair out of the big blind.

Chin Wei Lim: {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
Jack Sinclair: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

On a board of {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, the kicker played and the bubble burst to reduce the field to the final 17 hopefuls.

Martin Zamani opened the action with a raise and called the shove of Najeem Ajez for around 130,000 from one seat over.

Najeem Ajez: {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Martin Zamani: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} board failed to provide any help and Ajez was the first player to head to the payout desk, collecting A$70,980 for his efforts.

Vincent Huang three-bet from the small blind to 62,000 preflop and George Wolff called on the button. On the {2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, Huang bet 37,000 and Wolff called. Huang bet 102,000 on the {10-Diamonds} and Wolff shoved all in for about 100,000 more. Huang called it off right away with {a-}{10-} but was in awful shape against {6-}{6-}. The river was a {k-Spades} and Huang headed for payouts.

Koray Aldemir Eliminated in 15th Place (A$70,980)

Down to the last five big blinds, Koray Aldemir pushed all-in from under the gun and behind him, Sam Greenwood on the button and Dietrich Fast in the big blind also got their stacks into the middle.

Koray Aldemir: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}
Dietrich Fast: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Sam Greenwood: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

"Let's make it a fun one," Martin Zamani demanded but there was very little sweat for Aldemir on a {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs} board. Both ace-kings chopped up his stack and the High Roller regular departed in 15th place for A$70,980.

Derek Ip Eliminated in 14th Place (A$70,980)

Niveau 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Derek Ip
Derek Ip

Derek Ip was caught bluffing when he only had a bottom pair of deuces and Masato Yokosawa looked him up with {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for third pair.

That reduced the stack of Ip significantly and he dropped below 10 big blinds.

He was then in the big blind and faced a button raise to 23,000 by Tom Rafferty. Farid Jattin moved all in from the small blind and Ip called all-in for 81,000 from the big blind, Rafferty folded.

Derek Ip: {7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
Farid Jattin: {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}

The {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop paired Jattin and Ip was in need of running cards to double. It was all over after the {q-Spades} turn and the {2-Hearts} river mattered no more. Ip has been eliminated in 14th place and takes home A$70,980 for his efforts.

Sam Higgs and Chino Rheem had been under pressure over on table seven while George Wolff dropped below a million and Steve O'Dwyer raked in more chips. It would then be O'Dwyer who knocked out Higgs in 13th place to set up the final two tables.

Higgs was at risk with {a-}{6-} against the {a-}{9-} of O'Dwyer and a nine-high board left Higgs drawing dead on the turn. He takes home A$70,980 and the remaining 12 players are now guaranteed at least A$91,260.
