The most expensive tournament of the rescheduled 2021 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague has kicked off in the King's Casino at the Hilton Prague. Some of poker's biggest names jumped into the €50,000 EPT Super High Roller and the marquee event attracted a total of 35 entries on Day 1. Only 20 players made it through but the late registration remains open until the start of Day 2.

Canada's Timothy Adams was the only player to bag a seven-figure stack, having turned his 250,000 starting stack into 1,050,000. He is followed by Spain's Adrian Mateos (964,000) while defending champion Stephen Chidwick sits in third place (789,000). The remaining names in the overnight top ten are all well-known pros that can regularly be found in high stakes competitions.

The sole PokerStars ambassador to take part was €10,000 Bounty High Roller champion Sam Grafton and the jovial Brit was eliminated towards the end of the day by Adams when his open-ended straight draw only improved to an inferior straight.

Among the casualties was also €25,000 Single-Day High Roller I winner Teun Mulder, who entered two times without success. He was joined on the rail by the likes of Ben Heath, Benjamin Chalot, and Daichi Tominaga.

Czech WSOP bracelet winner Martin Kabrhel fired multiple bullets but could only turn them into a stack of 177,000 while other familiar names such as Laszlo Bujtas (205,000), Niklas Astedt (168,000), and Mustapha Kanit (121,000) all bagged up fewer chips than they started with as well.

The rise of Adams towards the top of the leaderboard received a major boost when Kabrhel ran with kings into his aces. From there on, the Canadian remained near the top for the remainder of the night and also dispatched Grafton as well. Defending champion Chidwick had a rocky start but accumulated chips thereafter before doubling in a flip against Thomas Muehloecker.

Among those expected to take advantage of the extended late registration until the start of Day 2 are King's Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik and Tony G. The tournament will recommence on Thursday, March 10 at 12.30 pm local time with blinds of 3,000/6,000 and a big blind ante of 6,000. All late entrants receive 250,000 in chips in their pursuit of glory.

Stay tuned for the conclusion of this three-day tournament, as the PokerNews live reporting team will provide updates until a winner has been crowned.

Day 1 Completed

Niveau 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Despite the efforts of Martin Kabrhel to rebuy by pushing all-in the last three hands in a row, no further all-in showdowns took place. The final 20 players have bagged and tagged for the night and will return at 12.30 pm local time for Day 2. At that time, the late registration for this event will close as well.

The Last Six Hands are Announced

Niveau 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

With 20 players out of 35 entries remaining and nine minutes left in the level, the clocks have been stopped. The number of hands was drawn and a six was exposed, which means as many hands will be played before bagging and tagging for the night,

Grospellier Doubles With a Big Hero Call

Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier
Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier

Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier opened the action with a raise to 15,000 and earned a call from Nick Petrangelo in the big blind. On the {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop, Petrangelo check-called a bet worth 25,000 and the {4-Spades} on the turn was then checked through. Petrangelo effectively pushed the {9-Clubs} on the river as he splashed in a tower of T-25,000 chips.

Grospellier had just 159,000 behind and used one time bank extension before making the call. Petrangelo revealed the {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a busted straight draw and Grospellier scored the double with the {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} to cause several gasps as the table.

Heath Left Short; Busts Soon After

Niveau 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Nick Petrangelo in the small blind and Ben Heath in the hijack both invested 65,000 on the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop and the {j-Spades} followed on the turn. Petrangelo used one time bank extension before making it 90,000 to go, which Heath called for nearly half of his remaining chips.

The board the completed with the {q-Clubs} on the river on which Petrangelo splashed in more than 300,000 in green T-25,000 chips. Heath double-checked his cards and sent them into the muck. That left the Brit with just under 100,000 and those vanished shortly after.

Grafton Felted by Adams

Niveau 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

In a battle of the blinds, Timothy Adams and Sam Grafton had both already invested 60,000 chips each leading up to the {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop. Adams eyeballed the stack of his table neighbour and then moved all-in. Grafton sigh-called within a few seconds for what appeared to be around 205,000 in chips.

Sam Grafton: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Timothy Adams: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Both players had a straight draw and Adams was in the lead. The {k-Diamonds} turn improved Adams to broadway and the {9-Spades} river was not enough to keep Grafton in contention, who instantly left the tournament area with a very loud sigh.
