Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Blinds 3,000/6,00/6,000

Action began on the turn in a button-versus-blind battle. The board showed {5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}.

With about 90,000 in the middle, Fedor Holz checked from the big blind. Yosuke Nakazawa bet 60,000 on the button. Holz check-called.

The river fell the {a-Clubs}. Holz checked again. Nakazawa moved all in after about 10 seconds of thought. Holz started counting his stack while considering the call for his tournament life, he had just under 60,000 remaining. Eventually, he did make the call.

Fedor Holz: {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Yosuke Nakazawa: {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Holz picked off the bluff, sending him up the leaderboard to about twice the average stack size.

Salem Straightens Out Neumann's Kings

Blinds 2,000/5,000/5,000

Issam Salem opened to 10,000 from middle position. On his left, Richard Neumann three-bet to 25,000. After about a minute, Salem moved all in for 102,000. Neumann called quickly.

"Ahhhh," moaned Salem assuming he had ran into a monster.

Issam Salem: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Richard Neumann: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

He had run into the pocket kinds of Neumann, but the {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} gave him some life. The perfect {10-Diamonds} brought that life home to give him the unbeatable straight, and the board finished with a {5-Hearts}.

Kurko Raises the River

Blinds: 2,000/4,000/4,000

Action began on the flop in a three-way pot. The board was showing {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

Halim Kara checked from the small blind. Henri Wagner bet 11,000 from middle position. On the button, Kimmo Kurko called, then Kara folded.

The turn brought the {2-Diamonds} in play. Wagner elected to slow down with a check. Kurko did the same.

The river landed the {8-Hearts}. Wagner then bet 23,000. After some thought, Kurko grabbed a stack of chips and slid 65,000 into the middle. Wagner looked interested, but in the end, laid down his hand.

"Show the bluff," said a tablemate. "One card."

But Kurko didn't, he just took the pot and moved on.

Anatoly Korochenskiy: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Gergely Bartos: {a-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Metsla Takes Small One From Holz

Blinds: 1,000/2,500/2,500

Mark Metsla opened to 6,000 from the hijack and was called by Fedor Holz to his left. Everyone else folded.

The flop came out {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{q-Hearts}. Out of position against Holz, always a fun proposition, Metsla put out a bet of 6,500. He was relieved to see Holz toss his hand into the muck.

Still, Holz has built a decent stack pretty quickly as blinds are getting up there with 300 players remaining in the field.
