Day 1a of the €5,300 Main Event of the PokerStars and Barcelona©Casino European Poker Tour has wrapped up.

The first of the two starting flights attracted 749 runners, of which 227 have secured themselves a place in Day 2.

Leading the way after ten one-hour levels of play is Anthony Cierco who built his stack from 30,000 to to an impressive 322,000 on the first day. Cierco was slowly building throughout the day but he moved to the top of the counts during the last level of the night when he managed to get full value after flopping a set of queens against David Yan’s aces.
Other players that are in prime contention after Day 1a include Youness Ait Hssain (297,000), Dimitrios Angelakos (296,000) and Jack Salter (282,500)

Some of the well-known names who took their chance and will also return for Day 2 include PokerStars Ambassadors Alejandro Lococo (165,000) and Ramon Colillas (93,500), as well as Julien Martini (148,000), defending champion Simon Brandstrom (142,500), and Kitty Kuo .

Notables who failed in their attempts to make Day 2 include PokerStars Ambassadors Parker Talbot and Sam Grafton in addition to Vanessa Kade, Jason Wheeler and Dominik Panka.

For those who haven’t used their single re-entry, they will have a chance to register on Day 1b on Tuesday, August 16, which - in terms of the structure - will be pretty much an exact replica of today, or until the start of Day 2.

Baumann Eliminated in Three-Way All In

After Gaelle Baumann moved her last 13,600 in from under the gun, Bartolomiej Swieboda then moved in for 42,000 from middle position.

With about 45,000 in his stack, Dushyant Shekhawat moved in as well from the small blind, putting both opponents at risk.

Swieboda's queens were in the lead, and after the board ran out , they remained so, eliminating Baumann, and leaving Shekhawat with a nub that would disappear just a couple of hands later.

Nemeth Cracks Aces with Ace-King

After an open to 1,600 from a middle position player, Jean Junior Guimaraes three-bet to 4,100 on the button, and Andras Nemeth four-bet to 10,500 in the big blind. Action folded back to Guimaraes who moved in the rest of his chips, and Nemeth quickly called.

Guimaraes was the big favorite to double and just needed to fade running cards after the dealer fanned the flop. The turn provided a sweat, however, and the spiked the river to give Nemeth the pot with a flush on the unlikely runout, while Guimaraes made his exit.

Lococo Gets Full Value on the River

With a bit over 3,000 in the pot, Alejandro "Papo MC" Lococo checked a flop of from the big blind to Minsoo Lee in early position.

Lee checked back and the duo saw the turn.

Again the players checked, but on the river, Lococo led out for 3,500. Lee didn't take long before calling to see Lococo show for a pair of nines. Lee showed his losing which went into the muck as Lococo dragged the pot.

Jaka Hits River to Oust Mdanat

On a flop, Faraz Jaka had 1,500 over the betting line in the cutoff, and Yazan Mdanat raised to 5,300 in the hijack. Jaka then moved all in, and Mdanat quickly put in a chip to call for his remaining stack of roughly 20,000.

Mdanat was currently ahead, although Jaka was the equity favorite with his array of outs. The turn changed absolutely nothing, but the spiked the river to give Jaka Broadway and the pot.

Short-Stacked Van Rooij Gets Shorter

Merijn Van Rooij opened with a raise to 1,000 from middle position and was called by Mercedes Osti in the hijack and Viktor Katzenberger in the big blind.
