Vanessa Kade
Vanessa Kade

With nearly 10,000 in the pot on a {8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop, Vanessa Kade bet 3,500 from the hijack and was called by Quentin Roussey in the cutoff.

Kade bet again on the {q-Spades} turn which sent Roussey into the tank for a couple of minutes before he opted to fold and send the healthy pot to the PokerStars 15th Anniversary Sunday Million champion.

With approximately 4,500 in the pot on a completed board of {10-Clubs}{k-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, Stefan Dimitrov checked his big blind to defending champion from 2019, Simon Brandstrom.

Brandstrom put out a bet of 3,500, which after some deliberation, Dimitrov called.

Brandstrom showed {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for trip tens, and Dimitrov mucked his hand.

Bedir's Aces Oust Fonseca

Niveau 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Selahaddin Bedir
Selahaddin Bedir

As recounted by Selahaddin Bedir, Bedir opened to 300 from middle position and Luis Fonseca three-bet to 1,600 on the button. Action folded back to Bedir who called.

The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Bedir checked. Fonseca bet 1,000, Bedir check-raised to 3,600, and Fonseca called.

The {5-Hearts} landed on the turn, Bedir bet 7,500, and Fonseca called.

The {10-Clubs} completed the board and Bedir jammed to put Fonseca to the test for his remaining stack of approximately 14,000. Fonseca tanked for a couple of minutes and ultimately put in the chips.

Bedir tabled {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}, while Fonseca showed {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} for an inferior pocket pair, and he was sent to the rail early in the day while Bedir soared to the top of the early leaderboard.

Ghafoor Eliminated by Pihela on Third Hand of the Day

Niveau 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Farook Ghafoor
Farook Ghafoor

The words "all in and call" were heard shortly after the day began, and Igor Pihela was seen claiming a pot against Farook Ghafoor, leaving Ghafoor with a single black T-100 chip on the third hand of the day.

On the completed board of {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{j-Spades}{a-Clubs}, Ghafoor held {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, while Pihela held {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for a superior straight to take the chip lead very early in the day.

"I have to take a photo... every year same thing," Ghafoor lamented. "Nice hand."

Ghafoor had gotten his last chip in soon after and was showing down after Pihela bet out his opponents on the turn of the {q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} board.

Farook Ghafoor: {j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Igor Pihela: {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

The {6-Diamonds} completed the board to change nothing, and Ghafoor ultimately fell against another straight held by Pihela.

"Good luck," Ghafoor wished his opponents as he made his exit from the table.

Simon Brandstrom Wins 2019 EPT Barcelona Main Event

Record fields have been seen throughout the first few days of PokerStars and Barcelona©Casino European Poker Tour, and with the start of the €5,300 Main Event, that trend will likely continue.

Field sizes have progressively grown throughout the existence of this event, from 229 in its inaugural 2004 edition, won by Alexander Stevic to 2019’s record-setting field of 1,988 won by fellow Swede Simon Brandstrom.

Early expectations are that for the first time ever, the event could break the 2,000 player and €10,000,000 prize pool marks, and could even far surpass those numbers.

The first group of hopefuls will flow into Casino Barcelona at 12 p.m. local time to begin a day of ten 60-minute levels, where players will start their days with 30,000 chips at levels of 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante.

The field will receive a 20-minute break after every second level, with a 75-minute dinner break after level six.

Players will be allowed two entries over the pair of opening flights which take place Monday and Tuesday, before the fields combine Wednesday for Day 2 of the six day event.

At the start of Day 3, a shot clock will be implemented, with players receiving five 30-second time bank cards.
