PokerNews Podcast: $20K Mistake, Negreanu Beats Polk, NAPT Returns, & Guest Tom Orpaz EPT Barcelona Heater

Niveau 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

On the latest PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Connor Richards, and Matt Hansen catch you up to speed on what's been happening at EPT Barcelona, Daniel Negreanu defeating Doug Polk on High Stakes Duel, and the return of PokerStars' North American Poker Tour (NAPT).

They also delve into the Global Poker US Poker Open (USPO), tell you about the first winner from the the PokerStars Summer Series, cover two big hands involving pocket queens from the past week, and debate arguably the hottest topic of the week — would you pay back $20K after a player grossly misread his hand and called off on the river (which actually happened on Hustler Casino Live)?

As for a guest, Connor and Matt were at EPT Barcelona and caught up with Tom Orpaz, a high-stakes real estate entrepreneur who in his spare time can be found grinding the EPT High Roller circuit. Orpaz, who made headlines in 2020 for purchasing the most expensive apartment in the world, went on a tear at EPT Barcelona that saw him winning €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em and €50,000 Super High Roller Second Chance for two trophies and over $1 million in winnings, proving he can hold his own among the top pros. PokerNews caught up with Orpaz, who has proven to be one of the most entertaining and talkative players on typically reserved High Roller Circuit.

Niveau 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Francesco Pilato
Francesco Pilato

Francesco Pilato raised in the hijack to 110,000, then Aleksandr Shevliakov three-bet 300,000 on the button. Pilato called.

The dealer spread a flop of 1099 and Pilato check-called a bet of 80,000.

When the Q hit the turn, Pilato checked once more before folding to a bet of 225,000 from Shevliakov.

The following hand:

Pilato opened again, this time from the cutoff, and only Maher Nouira called out of the big blind.

When the J109 flop hit the felt, Nouira check-called a bet of 110,000 from Pilato.

Both players proceeded to check down the 8 turn and 4 river. Nouira tabled 103 for a pair of tens, but it was no good as Pilato showed AJ for a pair of jacks to take the pot.

Huang Wei
Huang Wei

Huang Wei opened to 300,000 from the hijack, committing almost his entire stack. Maher Nouira moved all in from the button for 725,000 and Francesco Pilato moved all in on top, covering both players. Wei made the call.

Huang Wei: 109
Maher Nouira: AQ
Francesco Pilato: KK

Pilato seemed poised for a double knockout but Nouira took the lead with top pair on the AJ8 flop. Wei then hit a straight on the 7 turn, but the triple up was not meant to be as the river came the 9, giving Nouira the nut-flush to secure nearly a full triple up while Wei was sent to the rail.

Ka Kwan Lau opened 100,000 in the hijack and Alexandre Reard called on the button. Vlad Darie was in the big blind and eyed up Reard's stack before jamming for 1,125,000. Lau folded, but Reard made the call.

Vlad Darie: 55
Alexandre Reard: AJ

It was a classic race and the AQ7 flop gave Reard the best hand with a pair of aces. Darie was unable to find one of the remaining fives as the board completed with the 10 on the turn and the 4 on the river.
