The field of 2,120 entries generated a prize pool of €10,282,000, from which the winner will take home €1,488,000. The top 303 players are guaranteed a min-cash of at least €8,850.
With a pot brewed of about 30,000, the turn read 10♦10♠9♦5♦, and Alan Ferraro led 12,500 from the big blind. Tzur Levy was on the button and took about 45 seconds before making the call.
When the 3♦ completed the board, Ferraro checked and Levy thought about his options for close to a minute before deciding to check-back. Ferraro rolled over K♦8♠ making a flush on the river and Levy mucked his hand.
Stanislau Shylkou opened to 4,000 in middle position and Samuel Fournier called in the hijack before Eric Kitain three-bet jammed a stack of 33,000 on the button. Both opponents folded to with Kitain the pot.
Terence Etim was all in from the big blind against the bigger-stacked Ivan Velickovic in early position.
Terence Etim: 8♥7♥
Ivan Velickovic: K♣Q♣
Etim flopped a pair and a flush draw and took the lead on the 8♦ turn, but the Q♠ then landed on the river to give Velickovic trips and to make Etim's elimination.
A total of 1,593 unique players tossed in 2,120 entries for the €5,300 Main Event at the 2023 edition of EPT Barcelona.
This is the second time that an EPT Main Event drew more than 2,000 total entries, the first coming right here in Barcelona in 2022.
The 1,593 unique players represented 85 countries, up from 78 in 2022. The top five nations are France (205), Italy (144), Spain (124), Brazil (89), and the United Kingdom (76). The 205 runners from France accounted for 12.7% of the field.
Leonel Guerra Garza raised 5,000 under the gun and Jesse Cesar Fonseca called on the button before Michael Noori did the same in the big blind.
When the Q♣J♠3♠ flop hit the felt, both Noori and Garza checked to Fonseca who fired a bet of 4,000. Noori folded before Garza put in a check-raise to 15,000 which resulted in Fonseca snap-folding.
Ryan Price opened to 4,500 first-to-act and was called by Ka Kwan Lau in the cutoff. Javier Gomez then shoved for his last 25,000 from the big blind and Price also went all in. Lau quickly folded and hands were revealed.
Javier Gomez: J♦J♠
Ryan Price: A♣9♣
Gomez was in good shape with his jacks, and the 6♦4♥3♣ flop and 5♠ turn changed nothing; however, the A♥ paired Price's ace on the river — eliminating Gomez in heart-breaking fashion.
